taylors fans are in an eternal state of victimhood like taylor

ellen is known for asking about people's dating lives and stop acting like taylor isnt ok with that when her only material is about men shes dated

stop with the fake outrage and the faux feminism BS when theres actual suffering at the hands of women that are actually vulnerable

This.

It seems that humor is disallowed now. Yes this was a bit uncomfortable and maybe Ellen should've realized it sooner and stopped. Nonetheless, the intention was comedy. And comedy relies on the fact that sometimes you may embarass your guest a little. If people didn't have thick skin, they just shouldn't be guests on comedy shows.

This isn't exclusive to Taylor. Gaga was made fun of at the Oscars and BAFTA last year for House of Gucci's accent, while she was in attendance. Who cares.

This is exactly the sort of thing that she and her fans talk about. Not all of her music is about breakups, and this is an extremely weird slutshamey narrative that has gone on since she was practically a new artist. She is a hopeless romantic, so a lot of her songs are about love and heartbreak. But she also has songs about fame, betrayal (outside the context of romance), insecurity, mourning, stories that she made up in her head, her ideal romance rather than one that actually happened, etc.

Gaga also has many songs about her known relationships with Luc Carl, Taylor Kinney, etc.. The only thing separating Taylor Swift from Gaga in that regard is that many of Taylor's boyfriends have been famous people. That doesn't negate her right to make music inspired by her love life, and it also doesn't negate her right to be upset when people reduce her entire catalog/talent to those men that she dated.

it’s not funny when the person being made fun of gets clearly more and more uncomfortable.

There’s a difference between being a comedian and being a bully.  A GOOD comedian is able to make EVERYONE in the room laugh.  A bully makes their target feel uncomfortable and Ellen is doing exactly that to Taylor in this video.  It is so clear to see too.  That’s not comedy imo, watching a room full of people laugh at one person and that person literally saying they want Ellen to stop and that person making it very clear this isn’t funny or cool.

how did that just fly over y’all’s heads

I still don't know how Ellen became so big in the US. She seems so annoying and disrespectful

Because she gave away free stuff and was entertaining the first few seasons with exclusive interviews and performances on the show.

All Taylor’s songs were always and are still about the guys she’s dated, Ellen asked her about it, so what’s the big deal? If someone is constantly writing about all the boyfriends they’ve had, should they not be asked about that “inspiration”? Or is Taylor the only one who can exploit previous relationships for a hit song? Taylor seems to always be in a constant state of victimhood.

People love to act like she only writes about people she's dated when that isn't even close to true. Hell, just because a song is about a breakup or relationship it doesn't mean it's her own. Her two most acclaimed albums aren't even about her in the first place.

It's an extremely weird bit of sexism that is widely accepted among the general public and especially in the LGBT community to condemn women for dating around and essentially slutshame them without saying the word slut. That's what this interview is, that's what the intention is.

It is perfectly acceptable for someone to be comfortable writing or singing about matters in their lives and not be comfortable talking about those same matters face to face, especially if it's being turned into a joke.

I'm a filmmaker. I just premiered a film today about a friend of mine who took their own lives. I made a film about it, but I don't have an interest in sitting down face to face with someone to talk about what happened. Art is a medium to express your thoughts and feelings, it is NOT an invitation for someone to trap you in a conversation about the art's origin.

I'm really tired of the "THEY'RE KILLING COMEDY" crowd.

Comedy is not this blanket excuse to make someone feel like a target. It's one of thing if the person is inviting a comedian to make them the subject of their jokes (like when celebrities agree to be roasted), it's another if a comedian has decided to pick on them even when they're being told to stop.

If a comedian starts making jokes about somebody and those jokes make the subject visibly uncomfortable--or especially if they ask the comedian to stop--then if the comedian continues they're not a comedian. They're a bully. Comedy is not about tearing someone down so other people laugh, and anyone who finds that funny is just as much a bully as the comedian.

In that clip, when did Ellen mention Taylor’s music? Not once.  Ellen was not asking about what inspires Taylor.  She was implying Taylor dates everybody . Did you not even watch the clip???? It’s very obvious what Ellen is trying to do.  The conversation of music or inspiration didn’t pop up ONCE.  I’m sorry but what you said is a reach imo

ellen appeals to the WASP housewife type and they love her because she asks the kinda rude questions it would be 'unbecoming' of them to ask.

the hate for her is OTT and is driven by homophobia. ellen is bad but you'd think she's the devil the way people go for her

Agreed, she’s annoying, but people “disgusted and horrified” need to get a grip.

Making a slideshow of somebody’s personal life, slutshaming and bullying her to talk about her personal relationships in a room full of people laughing at her face while she is crying and begging to stop is not comedy. If people found it funny back then, clearly something was wrong with the society’s perception.
