Are we surprised, after the horrible inflation of literally everything in 2023. Everything costs an arm and a leg. No one wants to spend in a rip-off economy. Keep your lettuce and we’ll keep our money.

That being said the last recession was only 2 years ago (innitial covid lockdown), I don't know how long a gap exactly that user thinks there was to make that comment

An economy doesn't benefit long term if we force companies to stay overstaffed. That's especially true now during a labor shortage

 

I get ppl get mad because of inequality issues but that's where tax reforms would come in. Forcing companies to keep positions that aren't needed I don't think is the best way to tackle that as they are not really good for productivity

 

Ur raising the cost of producing a product while simultaneously robbing a potential other company of labor they could better utilize

Because they see one of the world's largest companies terminating just over 1% of it's workforce as equivalent to the Plagues of Egypt. Instead of understanding why this is happening, they run with the headline.

One minute they’re complaining about not having enough workers to meet demand, this causing inflation

Next minute they’re laying off workers due to a self-inflicted recession to stall inflation 

May all those workers find other gainful employment soon and never have to return to Amazon.

I don't think Amazon ever complained they don't have enough workers. Memos suggested they would run through their talent pool by next year though.

I meant that generally. American media couldn’t stop talking about “workers not wanting to work” for a while after the pandemic.

I've been searching for a job after being laid off from a management job in the tech world for 2 months. Over 100 applications put in, several rounds of interviews for only 3 opportunities so far. I at least have my substitute teaching license to fall back on, but I don't have healthcare and I've officially run out of meds. Was declined for our government assisted healthcare because of my severance. I'm barely keeping my head above water. 

The job market will continue to get saturated with massive layoffs like this and the corporations will never have to face a penalty. In six months, the role that I was tenured in for half of a decade will get filled in by the next sitting duck.

Tech has been getting hammered for a while now. Arguably the worst sector to be in at the moment as far as job security goes. Sorry ur going thru that!

 

I lost a higher paying job as a production lead 6-7 months ago I really loved and now I'm an order picker at a warehouse for less money

 

It's a bummer but the economy is like that. In my case the cause was more indirect because of the chip shortage from China's lockdowns

Yeah I mean that's just sensationalism. But a shortage in one job sector doesn't mean there can't be a surplus in another job sector. Either way, it was just an excuse to raise prices. I know of a certain company that was/is citing supply chain issues when I'd personally say that's not the case for that company.
