This is so hilarious because the progressives literally could have done this EXACT thing to get Old ass Nancy Pelosi to make some serious concessions to improve the lives of the working class with supporting a $15 minimum wage and Medicare for All and even more!

We see how it only took a handful of congresspeople to hold up the process. people can say that it makes the Republicans look weak but if anything it shows how ineffective and spineless the squad has been this whole time. Which is a shame because I really thought that they’d actually stand up for the people. But I guess it shows how politics encourages you to abandon your values for clout.

I love how you talk **** about “the squad” but not about the 100s of other dems with power lol

The squad is made up of 6 people, not 18.

This is not the gotcha you think it is lol. Corporate dems (most of them) are evil too. I don’t like them either. So now what?

Great. They still could have held out and voted as a block. They could have done literally what is happening right now. The far right got McCarthy to neuter himself! He’s allowing a snap vote to happen at any point to remove himself from power if they want.

What I’m trying to get at here is not to just arbitrarily sh*t on dems or the squad whatever. I want to point out that this show of power by a small group is exactly what the progressives could have done last year to get meaningful, material improvements for the American people.

We need to pressure our congresspeople to finally serve us and not corporate interests. And if they do not deliver for us, they should be punished at the polls and ousted in the next election. I don’t know how this can be controversial unless someone is against improving the conditions of the working class. If that’s the case, just be honest about it.

At the end of the day my fight is not with other members of the working class. So we can disagree and move on but I’ll keep working to make life for ordinary people better.

Yet you specifically left them out of your initial point lol

Yeah, not controversial, common sense. If you need 18 people to block a vote and only have 6, you're not blocking anything. Individual members still need the democratic party at the end of the day. For their own legislation, for re-election funds, and for campaign endorsement. It's pretty clear that the party wanted Nancy, and defecting from that would have made everything harder. Finding 12 others to defect would have been hard, keeping them on your side against the party would have been impossible.

Question, I know McCarthy is viewed as a Trumper, but honestly candidates endorsed by these extreme right wing members such as Lauren B. etc. worry me as well. But then I see many people wanting McCarthy to lose from the democratic side. My question is, do we really feel confident that the other republican candidates to win the speaker nomination?
