Not the person in here saying the squad should have done this lol. Nancy Pelsoi wouldn’t have put up with it and the republicans are now at their lowest and will suffer electorally for this. If the squad did this we would have total gridlock and lose congress+ the presidency in 2024

List of the "Never Kevins"

Andy Biggs of Arizona, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, and Ralph Norman of South Carolina, HFC chair Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, controversial lawmakers Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Paul Gosar of Arizona, and five newly-elected members: Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Eli Crane of Arizona, Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma and Keith Self of Texas.

What do they want:

The rebels in the party have suggested that Mr McCarthy is too closely aligned with a broken system and will do little to change how Washington is governed.

"The American people want us to turn a page. They do not want excuses or performance art, they want action and results," Mr Biggs wrote on Twitter, as he launched a longshot bid for speaker himself.

He called for changing the "status quo" by reforming such things as how bills can be amended and how bills are brought to the floor.

Question, I know McCarthy is viewed as a Trumper, but honestly candidates endorsed by these extreme right wing members such as Lauren B. etc. worry me as well. But then I see many people wanting McCarthy to lose from the democratic side. My question is, do we really feel confident that the other republican candidates to win the speaker nomination?

We don’t, but the fact that there is no clear leadership or vision will affect votes/elections moving forward. Regardless of who is elected as speaker, a large number of voters (and for that matter, elected representatives) will be pissed off. And there will be repercussions.

Btw y’all, get everything that has to go through a government office taken care of right now. We’re likely headed for a government closure when it comes time for budget approvals.

Where did the 13 votes come from? Were they the 20?

Yes. McCarthy has been cutting all sorts of deals with the 20 holdouts to get them on his side.

Allegedly they’re adjourned until 10pm so I think he’ll finally get it on the 14th vote but who knows

can some American give a little context about this? like why he failed for the 13th time. Thanku

Essentially, in order to be elected Speaker, you need a simple majority, which would be 218 votes. In a heavily divided government where Republicans only have a slim majority (about 5 reps more than a simple majority), a small number of Rs can hold up the vote for whatever reason they choose. In the case of the two that are leading the charge against McCarthy, Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert, they thrive off of the attention and the ability to grandstand. Additionally, they are also further to the right than McCarthy, which probably plays some role in their opposition. In large part, McCarthy is being viewed as the "establishment" candidate, so the defections are expressions of "anti-establishment" sentiment.

We have forgotten our public MANNERS

:lmao: :lmao: I absolutely detest Matt Gaetz, but this... this is what Kevin McCarthy deserves. Slow, humiliating defeat in front of the whole world :giggle:
