Where does the time go The interview always stuck with me, and not always for good reasons. I have always loved Barbara’s interviews for their salaciousness but realize they are often problematic in 2022. They are from a bygone age, including those done by Diane Sawyer, when interviewers would demean female pop-stars (and to a certain extent male pop stars and all women in general), exploiting them in these interviews for ratings. These style of interviews are rarely done anymore now that stars can control their own narrative and marketing through social media. With Gaga, the pushy nature of the question regarding her sexuality was always so uncomfortable to witness. While her admission could have been a source of strength for her LGBT fans, it was not on her own terms, and Barbara’s aim was simply for ratings. It just goes to show you how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time. An interviewer would be ridiculed and shamed for forcing such an admission in 2022.
