The government should protect people from themselves, in my perspective. But that's not what the US is about. And by the sounds of it (the way he expressed his comment in the last 15 seconds), he probably supports the same harsh, "pull-yourself-up-by-your-own-bootstraps" kind of thinking when it comes to other, more vulnerable groups. I have some ympathy for him, but I think that in this case, he is and should hold himself accountable for his own actions.
