movies premiere in time for the awards season, and then get a wider release later on

Seems a little suspect though that a movie with a 50-something RT score and a certified box office flop got so many noms right out of the gate :bear:

Yeah, there has been a general decrease in box office results (aside from some quite obviously huge movies, aka Avatar 2) in the past weeks. I don't know if it has something to do with the audience or the movies themselves

covid has been spiking again (at least here in the UK) since november, if thats relevant at all (plus also other colds and flus in winter)

mother, what must i do?

That’s what it deserves for not featuring Babylon as the title song for the movie which in turn robbed miss Gagy of her next oscar nom for best original song which it obviously would have won. Not to mention the legendary Oscars performence featuring gays and Brad Pitt voguing half naked in an artificial robotic jungle that would have sent the song to nr 1. I don’t feel sorry for him :yennefer:

If you follow the awards season every year this isn’t suspect at all. It’s a highly anticipated follow up movie from a new director fresh off an Oscar win. It’s going to get buzz and nominations no matter what. I get that people online are obsessed with box office numbers, views and anything with numerical value, because they believe it puts businesses they don’t belong to in better context, but in general Hollywood does not care about that when it comes to nominations and awards. Once they have a movie like Avatar they can nominate, that fills their quota of “box office smash” noms.

Everyone saying it because of xmas and the lack of plot when its just that everyone is watching Avatar, its simple as that. Ofc everyone chooses Avatar over this. That must be the reason

The Whitney Houston biopic which looks like a cheap lifetime movie is is expected to open with $15M and doesn’t even have half of this movie’s budget. Why are people picking that over Avatar then?

If Gaga physically abuses Angelina Jolie and throws a can of beer on her head while also beating her children, then no, we don’t be singing a different tune :diane:

i feel like the studio & director thought that the marketing could survive solely on the star-studded cast, but the truth is nobody knows wtf the movie is about from the 2 trailers, so there's no audience interest generated

the RT score and box office bomb might actually eliminate Babylon from the remaining awards season nominations, and to be honest i hope it doesn't get many oscar noms so that it can give way to more deserving films like Aftersun, Glass Onion & The Woman King

I feel like this was a big, fat waste of money. They thought viewers would want to watch all these celebrities have a party, but like, why would we want to? A pretentious film with nothing to draw us in other than the cast. PASS

This is a film catered to Academy voters. They LOVE a good Hollywood themed movie. It’s why we see so many in the fall and winter.
