I recognize my country's racism, the posts being made here though are completely uninformed, that's why I provided an interview with an Afro Argentine activist to give context.

Voices that people from outside (mostly Americans with their savior complex, cause Operation Condor wasn't enough it seems, and Eropeans with their eurocentrist views) silence by using their platforms to erase them with the "Argentines are all white, there are no POC in Argentina" bs, instead of actually uplifting them.

Not argentinians choosing to not condemn this but instead blindly defend their country. YES ARGENTINA HAS GREAT THONGS BUT it has a SERIOUS racism issue and instead of turning a blind eye on it you should call it out and talk about how disgusting it is instead of trying to minimize it by calling out all the good things about Argentina. I think everyone knows every country has good and bad but ou need to suck it up when your country is being called out for a very REAL issue it has. End of.

Yes, Argentina has problems with racism as any other nation-state that has been configured as such. The very idea of "national identity" presupposes opposition to other identities, which are inferiorized and subject to logics of domination marked by racism. There are two aspects, among thousands of others, that I would like to highlight: 

1. The problem we are pointing out is that this denunciation of racism loses sight of the specific characteristics that this problem acquires in our country. In Argentina, racism towards the Afro-descendant population exists, but it is not the most abundant; the most predominant is that which falls on people from neighboring countries (mainly Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay) and on those belonging to or descending from native peoples. Racism in our country is deeply interrelated with classism: people belonging to the most socioeconomically vulnerable sectors of society are the object of racist attitudes. Our country is characterized by an immense miscegenation, which explains why the idea of "pure types" of "races" does not hold up as in other countries (we do not speak of "people of color", "latinxs", or similar categories forged in the global north). Here, there are no essentialist considerations about ethnic identity (in fact, in the last population census, the question about ethnic identity prioritized the fact of self-perception). That is why we are struck by the fact that the players of the national team are "read" as "white" when a large percentage of them, even physically, have marked native features.

2. On the other hand, the tendency to praise the virtues of the country responds to an attempt to defend itself from accusations received from people belonging to countries where the problem of racism is much more extreme and cruel, which took many more years to abolish slavery and which HAD COLONIES. That is one aspect that you people from the United States and Europe CANNOT UNDERSTAND. There is a substantial difference between having been (and being) empire (even former colony turned mega-empire), and having been a colony and remaining in a position of absolute subalternization. It is very shocking how you are unable to see that what you read as "diversity and inclusion" in soccer teams like the French is nothing more than the effect of years and years of colonization on African territories, which is perpetuated to this day. It is not about having teams "representative of people of color", it is about continuing to extract the labor force of those racialized people from territories once annexed as colonies to your vast empires.

Don't mean to bump this messy, messy thread but I feel like it's worth stating that rule is mostly for two reasons:

1) the mods are most fluent in English so it makes moderating much easier (translators always lose context or are downright incorrect sometimes so to mod a post/discussion in another language would mean contacting people who speak it and can provide context)

2) most members speak English pretty fluently so having posts in a universally understood language makes it easier on readers and posters.

There's exceptions though. Like, in fanbase threads or region specific discussions. In this thread, centered around Argentina and comparisons to other South American countries...and sports or whatever, idk, we aren't going to warn for speaking Spanish (if that's what they were speaking, I haven't seen the posts).

The only time that rule is really enforced is when general discussion threads (Gaga news, entertainment talk/news, stuff like that) have a number of posts that aren't in English. And only for the reasons above.
