Of course the media who are obsessed with Messi won't cover this, but Mbappé, the french black player who was only the 2nd man in history to ever score a hatrick in World Cup final, continues to be a favorite target for racist and homophobic attacks from the Argentinian team and their fans.

Today, argentinian goalkeeper Emi Martinez seemed to hold a doll with Mbappé's printed face on it mocking his defeat despite the fact he failed to stop any of the 4 goals Mbappé scored against him. This comes after he sang about a "minute of silence for Mbappé" after the match.

In the most shocking incident, fans are caught singing racist and homophobic lyrics about Mbappé directly on live argentinian television.

Argentinians fans were cackling all week long about the origin of French players, yet not a word was said about the origins of most Argentinians. What do you expect from a country which tried to exterminate the descendants of enslaved Africans living there. If white tr*sh was a country.

Ok...i am not a football fan but I watched the final game and both teams were fantastic...Moreover Messi and Mbappè are both top players. Regarding mocking Mbappè one should remind argentina fans  that apart from  their football skills they have been quite low for years...everyone could mock them for their corruption and poor disastrous economy. The country Is anyway beautiful.

And after all, I do not understand why the whole world is so happy about Argentina. They are truly bad people.

Racist and homophobic country? A country where literally anyone can come and live here, use our education for free, use our hospitals for free, a country where they will be welcomed happily, a country where lgbt marriage is legal, a country where a trans person can do their transition for free, a country where we share with others? Those singigs are football songs, and that's just what they are; football songs and it doesn't reflect the thinking of the society; which is a very open minded society, we might still have many issues (socially), but just like every country, a society isn't twitter.

Football fans doesn't make the whole country racist or homophobic. That's just trash football culture.

Do you really think Argentina is racist because of "nazis"? Or are you just saying that bc you read a thread on twitter?

Oh girl, Americans have a very poor level in all subjects or just history? Do yourself a favor and grab a book. I can recommend several books on Argentine history from a decolonial and anti-imperialist perspective that might come in handy. Maybe you can stop being so blinded by your geoplanetary privileges.

It's all subjects except eating.  They get A+ in fried food and soda. I have receipts.

EDIT:  to be fair, it's only MOST Americans that are painfully ignorant.  USA also has by far the largest and most impressive higher education system on Earth, and it has yielded more and been more diverse and inclusive than anywhere else, too.

There's two separate issues here:

Football is rife with racism. Any sort of racism should not be tolerated. It's silly to act like this is exclusive to Argentina. That said, of course this is wildly inappropriate and offensive. But it's a bit rich to see Americans & the Brits & Italians (where they regularly throw bananas at Black players) act like Argentina is worse. That said, yes, Argentina is a very white country and probably one of the most racist in all of Lt Am. But racism is everywhere, and I'd argue far worse in the US & parts of Europe...and the Nazi comment is kind of gross because the thousand or so fled everywhere, not just Argentina, and Argentina has a large community of German Jews.

The Argentinian TEAM (not the fans) being snarky with Kylian (with the exception of a few, like Messi) could very well be due to him criticizing Lt Am football and the longstanding rumors that he's been straight up awful to many Lt Am and Brazilian players (including Neymar, who is Black).

I hesitate to call the entire team racist for singling out Mbappe, when there are other Black players that have played against before that they haven't singled out. It's LONG been said that he gets angry with players who don't speak French as PSG & was mad at them for speaking Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese in the locker room (ironically, he does speak some Spanish, too). So yes, while their behavior is immature, inappropriate, and dumb, I can understand why they might dislike Mbappe. And maybe it's a combination of them being racist & disliking Mbappe's alleged xenophobia towards Lt Am.

This is hardly shocking considering the lack of POC on the Argentinian team. Maybe they aren’t taught to respect anyone that’s not white.
