It might be a USA thing

I mean being kind/emphatic isn’t an exclusively American phenomenon, which is all the server person was being. However, as a British person that has spent time in the US, I’ve come to realise that Americans aren’t shy about small chat with strangers. What might feel awkward and overly familiar at home isn't perceived the way same in the US, and it took me a while to get used to it.

Not the bore worms!

You can be empathetic without being condescending. Like Britney did not ask for this person’s pity so to just assume you know her so well you can insert your pity like that is well intentioned but a bit intrusive and rude.

you don't need to know someone to ask if they're okay, there's really no defending britney's reaction here

mother, what must i do?

I kind of stan this about my country. The ability to be friendly and neighborly with people you've never met :diane:

There's a lot to hate about the US but there's some nice stuff too.

I'm just like 🧍‍♂️

Can people at least try to be factual about this ? There is no evidence that she told anyone to go f--k himself. In fact, she almost certainly didn't. She is posting what she is thinking about the incident, not reporting what she did. She hasn't named the guy, nobody knows who he is, he may not have known who she was, and he may never become aware of the post.

The post is disturbing though. I wish her well.

How is asking someone if they're okay condescending or rude? When you see that someone is not well, it's not rude or condescending to ask them if they're okay, it's call being a decent human being.

Awakened M

I can't tell if some of these comments about how showing kindness/empathy is rude/inappropriate are actually serious, which irks me. Like can we not joke about every single thing on this site?

I'm not getting any sleep tonight because I woke up to a beautiful life. I'm awake.

If I was not feeling well and someone random gave me kind words like this, it would make my day. And you're all finding it rude? :toofunny:

You popped my heart seams, all my bubble dreams

They didn’t ask lmao they just assumed she was going through it and basically said they feel sorry for them lmao *asking is great! But they literally just assumed she was going through it like they know her and her life lmao it’s invasive

They didn’t ask though hahahaha that would have been great! They literally said “it’s gonna be okay”

like it’s fine to just kind your p’s and q’s. They’re not Satan or something but I get why she felt it invasive when people are constantly prying into her life and have been for like 30 years

Because crying in your car at a Jack in the Box isn't a sign you're going through it...
