Dancing Shadow 1,171
I have a question... Why is it bad to perform in qatar? I mean the people there may not even be as cruel as their government.. wouldnt it be wrong to not even give them a chance to hear certain musicians live just because of their government? is there somethinng deeper im not understanding? This kind of narrative is so annoying tbh, there's no comparison between these two topics. Gaga sang a worldwide peace anthem as a homage to one of the most celebrated artists of all times, without boasting; Maluma is going to perform a terrible song from which he's taking profit and talking like he has the solution to human rights mistreatment when, in fact, he's little more than just a football fan. No one is going to attack you if you like Maluma, but there's no excuse here. And Gaga is actually talented

And Gaga is actually talented He’s boasting because he’s an artist who has reached an international level of recognition and artistry that not many Latin artists get the chance to achieve and Gaga got paid anywhere between 2mil-5mil for the performance, all artists get paid and all artists work to expand their brand and their reach and go to a Maluma concert, he can sing, play guitar and play piano, reggaetón isn’t the box you think it is

I guess it's like sending a message to their government or something even tho it's always ordinary citizens that have to miss out on boycotts like no concerts so I always find this kind of thing a bit of double edged sword But who knows. It might just irritate the government enough to start to sow some seeds of thought that they might have to start making some changes to join up with the rest of the world But my opinion on a boycott like this for a number of different reasons is that it's not as simple black and white as "you choose to go there it means you don't support gay rights". It may get me a lot of hate to say it, but I don't like oversimplifying issues with tunnel vision. I also don't like hypocrisy and inconsistency, which u get a lot of quite often with these kind of celebrity led trend movements That being said if u genuinely are trying to make a positive change with the boycott, then good for u. Positive change is good and important. But my only issue with Maluma going is how abnoxious he is being about it and insensitive giving he essentially brushes off the issues and now sounds even worse trying to sound like he cares about the issue and is trying to bring "light". I find that disgusting cuz it's so obviously baloney and he's just trying to put a positive spin on the backlash cuz u can tell he doesn't actually care that much If he had simply respectfully said he wasn't joining the boycott cuz he didn't think it was gonna change much anyway or didn't wanna be punishing ordinary fans (not the government)... Or that he thought a lot of stuff is boycott worthy and totally ignored (hypocracy and inconsistency I was talking about) and so he felt he wasn't obligated to join this particular one just because it became an internet social trend of the moment, I could have personally respected him a little bit more without looking down on his decision as much But because of the way he's going about it and what he's saying, he sounds worse than anyone else that is choosing to still go but at least keeps their mouth shut
Debithius 5,865
I am offended over the fact that he thinks people are so stupid and brainwashed that they won't see through his bullshit. Go **** yourself Maluma.
