But as a huge Depeche Mode fan, I definitely recommend Songs of Faith and Devotion, it's their gloomiest album by far and very heavy on religious topics. You can also try Black Celebration. Both are considered goth/alt-rock classics.

yeah, that's what I was thinking... Siouxsie, Nightwish, The Cure, etc. imagine my surprise looking at the suggestions. lol

This is definitely getting more heavy into rock and metal, but The Birthday Massacre is a band with a good discography.
