Can someone explain to me what they mean with “organic” in this context?
I’m not a native speaker PLUS I’m a biochemist, so organic is already associated with other things 😂😂

An organic hit is somewhat similar to a sleeper hit, except a sleeper hit is one that has usually been out for quite some time before it became popular. An organic hit debuts strong or achieves chart success somewhere in its run without ‘gimmicks’ (not hating on them, they’re certainly used for a reason: they’re a win win for everyone), I.e. discounts, multiple versions, fan incentives, bundles etc.

One that came to mind quickly is The Way by Ariana, it was her debut major mainstream track and it debuted at #10 with simply tweeting about its release, some radio promo, and a music video. It later peaked at #9 weeks later for two weeks. Or our very own Gaga’s debut single. All it had was her vigorous performance schedule and her dedication to each one and a music video, and, as we know, hit #1 four months after its release due to gradual attention and her continuing to perform the f*ck out of it, also making it a ‘sleeper hit’
