Billboard is dying, it's their only way to make some buzz.. the chart lost it's value the moment songs like Closer were #1 for weeks, these days even a frog can hit #1 if you stream it enough

why "Closer" specifically? it was a very popular and successful song, why is its chart position problematic? Surely not because of the Gaga bias?

There was a time when I knew every single song of the top 20. nowadays I don’t even know the artists in the top 10. maybe it’s because I’m getting old, I don’t know

If your faves taking the top 10, you wouldn't even make this thread.

exactly  the pain and jealousy of taylor's success really got to them :laughga:

Next they'll be questioning people's personal decision of buying the album :nooo:

Oh honey Taylor is not the centre of the world. Here Taylor is just an example of the charts nowadays and what they actually mean.

I think it’s actually better since we’re REALLY seeing what people are listening to in the streaming era on the charts.

Sure, if it’s an artist you don’t like, it’s annoying seeing them dominate the entire top 10 but if it’s an accurate reflection then it’s an accurate reflection.  I think it’s better than when the top 10 would be just what labels could push harder on radio.  We’re getting more organic hits and seeing songs that might’ve stayed fan favourites get in the charts.

Yaaaas Gaga

I think the biggest problem isn't necessarily that an artist is able to occupy the entirety of the top 10 of the Hot 100 as a result of today's streaming climate, but more a problem that the media try to compare charts/sales/achievements between the streaming era and pre-streaming era, which just isn't possible. For example, it simply wasn't viable that an artist could occupy the entirety of the top 10 in the 80s because only the singles could chart and the non-singles weren't available for purchase outside of buying the album. With that said, we all know that artists like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston etc, would have easily occupied the top 10 of the charts had streaming been available during their eras. I therefore think any sales figures and records should be clearly distinguished between pre and post streaming so that it is a fair comparison.

One of the things i've always thought is that they convert streams into sales for modern day artists, but it would be interesting if they could find an algorithm for estimating streams based on physical/digital sales for pre-streaming era.

I feel like lots of y'all will be much more annoying than Nicki Minaj or depressed about charts if y'all were a famous artist. So thankfully you're not, for your own good :bradley:

Just be thankful it's a woman of pop slaying, not a boring homophobic and mysoginistic male rappers :triggered:
