RAMROD 117,023
Elon Musk has given employees their first ultimatum: Meet his deadline to introduce paid verification on Twitter or pack up and leave. The directive is to change Twitter Blue, the company’s optional, $4.99 a month subscription that unlocks additional features, into a more expensive subscription that also verifies users, according to people familiar with the matter and internal correspondence seen by The Verge. Twitter is currently planning to charge $19.99 for the new Twitter Blue subscription. Under the current plan, verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmark. Employees working on the project were told on Sunday that they need to meet a deadline of November 7th to launch the feature or they will be fired. Musk has been clear in the months leading up to his acquisition that he wanted to revamp how Twitter verifies accounts and handles bots. On Sunday, he tweeted: “The whole verification process is being revamped right now.” Even though he is barely three days into being “Chief Twit,” Musk has moved quickly to make changes at Twitter, first by changing its homepage for logged out users. With the help of Tesla engineers he has brought into Twitter as advisors, he’s also planning mass layoffs aimed at middle managers and engineers who haven’t recently contributed to the code base. Those cuts are expected to begin this week with managers already creating lists of employees to cut. Employees tasked with executing projects of Musk’s since he took control Thursday eveninghave been working late into the night and over the weekend. https://www.theverge.com/2022/10/30/23431931/twitter-paid-verification-elon-musk-blue-monthly-subscription https://news.yahoo.com/verified-twitter-users-may-soon-011310960.html Suddenly I don't want that blue badge anymore. It is no longer that special cos you can pay for it. Monthly. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ ᶠʳᵒⁿᵗ ᵗᵒʷᵃʳᵈ ᵉⁿᵉᵐʸ (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡
LaLa 19,898
This is incredibly stupid. The verification system is there for a reason. Like what if a celebrity, say, Gaga decides she doesn’t want to pay for this. What’s to stop someone with the name @lady_gaga paying the $20, getting the check and confusing everyone. Or politicians and governments getting impersonated in ways that could be actually dangerous. Twitter is going to be a MESS and this will just drive genuine users away

weed 78,905
So what the f*ck does "verified" mean? "paid for this" instead of "this is the actual person" scaryyyy I wonder how much it'll actually change.. imagine him killing twitter.. I would ONLY cackle at his financial loss but otherwise devastating
PartySick 172,486
What a joke Well, if his goal was to destroy Twitter (which it very well might be) then congrats, I guess. Whimsical bitch

SpadesToStart 3,808
So anyone that coughs up $240 per year can be verified, and if you’re a person of significant influence like a politician or celebrity and you don’t pay then no more verified status? What a scam. Twitter has started to circle the drain

Also bear in mind that the twitter of every government agency and most state-level and higher government officials are all verified for obvious reasons (even someone as low as a state senator). If they all have to start paying to keep their verified status, Musk will effectively be siphoning away millions of dollars of tax payer money every year

The Fame Monster 4,554
I have never understood why normal people want to be in Twitter. It's such a boring platform. I kinda get it with celebs and politicians... but now that this platform is becoming such a mess and an even worse place to bully everyone than it was before, I would log out for good or delete my account. I hate Elon's way of lead... Like do this within a week or get fired. In my country, these kinds of demands from employers would be illegal. USA would be such a scary place to be working at, they don't have any kind of protection for employees, it seems. Twitters the best social media for communities, It's got it's issues but I've never seen another that lets you keep up and engage with different communities and gets the social part down so well. FB is pretty much dead, Instagram has been on a corporate fueled downhill spiral for years and Tiktok is a good app but it's more content over conversation and pretty limited to video content. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will see that now is probably the best time to make a new social media for when Elon inevitably ruins twitter.
