Tbh I don’t understand how physical copies are selling these days??? I haven’t bought a physical album since 2015. And I’m shocked that they are still being produced. Everybody has a streaming account where you can listen to any album endlessly on any device. Not to mention that it’s hard to even find a way to PLAY a CD these days. Laptops these days don’t come with CD players and neither do cars. Unless you have a very old computer or a 2004 Honda Civic (like @Morphine Prince ) you’d have to go out and buy a CD player just to listen to it.

physical copies are likely to have exclusive tracks and you actually get to keep the music

vinyls make great decorations, CD drives are pretty cheap and both are higher quality than streaming (minus Tidal)

mother, what must i do?

I would say vinyl sells better than CD these days, and I am expecting Taylor to get the record for most first week vinyl sales ever, but there are a lot of people who are realizing they like ownership over their media. I think streaming tons of stuff the past few years has opened peoples eyes on this. If they like a movie, show, game or album they want to own it physically.

Physical copies are more rewarding in my opinion. While it's easier to have music right there on a computer, you could have an CD album you can't get anywhere or an album you get to keep with exclusives on it. There's also exclusive art in the booklets, it's just a better experience overall. There are nice CD players on Amazon. CDS forever!

Because people learned that they can't 100% trust digital technology. What they giveth can be taketh away. Be it partially or fully. It happened in a lot of cases, purchased video games and its DLC, music, movies. You gotta have backups in form of hard copy. And people who opted for that are likely got the devices they can use it for anyway, it will not be an issue.

I have a 2011 car and can only listen to CDs in it. I can't even connect my phone to it to play music, so in my car, I either have to listen to CDs or the radio. (Yes, I am buying a new car next spring, but in the meantime...)

I also like physical copies because anything can be removed from streaming at anytime––think the original Do What U Want. I do upload all my CDs to my digital music library as well. (I have an external CD drive) Streaming is great, but it can be ephemeral. Plus, as others have mentioned, physical copies mean album exclusives + the artwork, etc.

Here's one response. I only youtube at home. I rip the songs off cd and put them on phone. That way no data used from phone while driving. There are  external media players too for laptops. Also playstation or xbox.

most people don't listen to purchased CDs/vinyl. they buy them just to boost the artist's sales and position on charts.

Target Editions are a popular thing in the industry that almost every artist, including Gaga, uses. They include a bonus track or two that is unavailable digitally and can only be found on a CD bought at Target.

Beyond that, collecting is more popular now than it ever has been. People like to build up collections of merchandise of their faves and this is a great way to do that. Plus, with the special song being included and the usually finite amount of time that these editions are available to the public (they usually stop selling them after a year or so), down the line having sealed copies of these things could become quite valuable, especially if the artist never releases the exclusive tracks to streaming.

Vinyl holds this market up tho big time. Vinyl sales are the highest physical media sales across all mediums (CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc) other than video games and it's because of the collecting aspect. Vinyl sales yearly are approaching closer and closer to figures similar to the 80s.
