ppl like madonna and taylor are mediocre in terms of their level of talent

This is such kind of bs, Taylor writes most of her songs herself, plays multiple instruments and is very involved in every proces. Madonna also paved the way for many current artists and that's not just because she's some mediocre white girl.

Please educate yourself before making statements like that and bringing race into the equation.

i think so many artists and writers wish they could have an inch of her pop music magic touch. including me!

SOOOO this. im not a big taylor fan and only ended up liking a few tracks from the album but despite that - the whole time i was absolutely aware of the genius even if it isn't for me. the nuance (and sometimes *needed* lack of) and tone and picture painting. even if it's not my cup of tea all the time she really does have her own brand down to a science and I wish I was capable of writing **so many** songs let alone good songs! Like she's able to get a message and story across in so many various ways.

I'm happy for her tho. Grammys are on lock and thank god so she doesn't cry over it, I wish her to get a WW, organic hit this time. She can do it, c'mon gurl :applause:

The lyric videos are doing it for me...like, can these be the actual music videos and put Taylor on it?

These songs wont be hits, and thats alright. I feel that Taylor is just sharing her 'midnights' and i say it's precious. The fans, the marketing team..will make it more successful. Taylor just wants to write music and she deserves these wins for her passion and hard work.

Most likely i wont be further listening or singing these songs, but hey, her music is quality, poetry...and im glad that we have an artist like her in our lifetime. She is a genius.

i wish i understood the hype

with beyonce her new work isnt for me but i know shes exceptionally gifted vocally and an amazing performer.

taylor i dont see it, i listened to the album and its boring AF i really tried but i cant get into it lol ppl say her writing is unparalled but she has cowriters and its not like shes writing it completely alone.......

She wrote it mainly with her producer, her boyfriend or a couple of other faces (for like 2 songs). Tell me a singer that writes every single song by themselves?

Feels good to see for a once a female album break a general streaming record and not a record "among females"

Sneaky Oliver

I have been enjoying the album so far. It's not particularly spetacular and sonically it feels like a sequel to Lover which I think it's her less appreciated record so it doesn't make much sense commercially. I really expected a big shift from her sonically, judging by the aesthetics. I thought it would lean more into indie-folk.

My only problem with the record is that it has just a few catchy moments. The lyrics are great but they're not as catchy as the choruses from Lover (for the sake of comparison)

It kinda works as the continuation of the "Taylor Swift journey " and this is that keeps her fanbase interested and making such huge numbers.

I am not a Taylor Swift fan, never have been, and in fact have mostly disliked her and her music for many years.

I have a best friend who is a huge fan of her, and she finally got me curious enough to listen to Midnights. It is a very good album and the cover art is outstanding. I found myself mesmerized by her lyricism, and the sonics are just wildly unique. I wouldn’t consider myself a Swiftie quite yet, but this album is absolutely worth the hype. It’s not my usual style, but that doesn’t negate the album’s value. She did a wonderful job.

1. You literally said she didn't write it all by herself and has collaborators, but that's not neither here nor there because almost every artist  collaborates with writers and other artists/producers/etc.

2. SO many artists write their own music/lyrics mostly by themselves (With obvious collabs from others, just like Taylor on Midnights), it literally takes 2 seconds to look at credits on Wikipedia. Here's a few from recent releases: Shygirl (she has writing credits on all of the tracks on her new album), Bjork (she's the only writer and producer on all of the tracks on her new album except 4 of them + 1 track that is a traditional Icelandic folk song and this has been the case for her 30+ years career), Tegan and Sara's new album (and previous albums), Caroline Polacheck latest releases are written by her + producer, Lorde (who wrote SP with Jack, just like Taylor did with Midnights, if anything Taylor has more collaborators on Midnights than Lorde has on SP), Florence Welch (also has Jack as co-writer/producer + a couple of other collaborators)... And that's just a few people that came to mind now. Let's stop pretending that Taylor is the only genius who writes everything by herself. Many do that (and do it better, mind you).

What does it matter? Obviously people don’t understand how song writing actually works? Yes they are obscure artists that write their own songs but many many artists use song writers. Even Gaga has been slightly more reliant on song writers, Mariah, Madonna, Dolly Parton all have help in writing their songs. Anti-Taylor people need to get off their high horse and accept that Taylor gets help and it doesn’t discredit her as a song writers, barring in mind you are on a fansite of a singer that used 12 song writers on one album track.

There’s nothing to understand really. She’s a marketing genius. Everything that happened in her life she used as a marketing tool and she is EXTREMELY passionate about her work even after 15 years..

Yeah pretty much this. Talent + Extreme Passion + Brilliant Marketing = a STRONG recipe for success.

I don't know what's wrong with me. I really wish her the best, but I don't understand the hype. It really is a good pop album, but It can be recorded by anyone. But if someone else had recorded it, it won't get 90 on metacritic and record streaming numbers.

That being said, I can understand some of this point as well. I think it boils down to popularity. Taylor Swift is very popular, and it therefore is popular to like her music and give it good ratings.
