Reginald 13,838
Hm. This album is definitely not a 98. Based on perceived hype, I expected this album to be excellent I would rate this a 60-65. Carly's The Loneliest Time is a lot more fun, charismatic, and entertaining than Midnights. I feel like it's a fair comparison, since Taylor decided to release Midnights on the same day. It will be interesting to see how Metacritic changes over time
Gagaism 10,125
Im a big fan. I’ve listened to standard version and so far Lavender Haze and Karma are the standouts for me but of course I need more listens. I don’t know how to feel about this because reputation for example I got love instantly. Even Lover I liked better. Maybe I just like the bubblegumish pop better but I hope this one will grow on me. I feel exactly the same. Lavender Haze is the standout for me. We get to hear other sound and another voice at least. I wish the production was a bit more different in general. Solemos them sound like B sides from Lover. Same beats

Nothing about this album is groundbreaking or impactful in terms of artistry and quality, it's just a pop album that brings nothing new to the table (and I'm not sayin every pop album has to bring something new to the table) so giving it such a high score makes no sense, especially when the music is not even that good to say yeah it's a pop album that deserves a 90+ score despite not being innovative. Soft, soothing, and succulent

To be fair other incredible indie acts release albums just as good and are far to be as rewarded so it's partially true. The same album released by a nobody would never have this level of acclaim so it's not only about being deserving imo.

MelbHawker 6,583
The industry dares not to criticize her.. I’m not a huge fan but listened to the album whilst WFH today. Honestly, I don’t get what the fuss is about.. it just sounds so on trend / typical to me. At times, I got into some of the songs and at others, I was bored. I really don’t get the hype or the immense praise she’s getting for this.
thisboyisamonster 778
Its still quite good (probably better than Lover and Rep) but just not gonna top Red, Folklore and 1989
