Easy on Me and As It Was were #1 for like 25 weeks combined. What makes her think she can beat those in terms of success :partysick:

she probably means that SFG is the most successful rap song. her song was removed from Rap Performance because according to her they are scared to have her in this category and they moved to pop so it is unlikey to win Grammy.

What competition and who is scared? I'm so confused

idk who exactly she has in mind. but Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Pt. 5” is considered a frontrunner in the rap performance category.

She spoke on this already, she's the only female rapper (and one of the few rappers/artists period) who is not in a 360 deal.

This means different record labels have to pay Nicki considerable amounts for her features and that they don't make as much off her.

There is a concentrated effort from different record labels to build their own "in house" female rapper (Atlantic - Cardi, RCA - Doja/Latto, 300 entertainment - Megan) that they can make money off.

This shows itself in the heavy campaigning for these artists and it's industry people on the committee's of these award shows that make certain choices (Make Cardi #1 "For the Culture" campaign for Bodak Yellow, Beyonce feature and Grammy campaign for Megan, moving Doja into R&B categories etc.)

This makes sense for these record COMPANIES but what they also do is make it harder for Nicki (Such as moving her song into pop categories with Adele and Taylor Swift - when it's been #1 on the hip hop charts for 9 weeks, production is based on a sample of a previous rap Grammy winner and has the same producer as Big Energy who is in the rap category).

Nicki doesn't get the same industry push, has these girls getting achievements far earlier in their careers (Cardi hasn't released a second album yet and openly uses ghost writers, Megan's latest album and singles have not performed in the way you would expect for a Grammy winner and Latto has strong airplay but weak sales and streams).

Nicki just wants the competition to be fair (Let her compete in the same category as Latto whether that's rap OR pop etc) and is calling out shady industry practices

She makes, the smart decision, to not sign her life away and gets fustrated at how the industry, media and young artists disrespect what she has achieved - you can understand the motivations and why things work the way they do and still not agree or respect it.

What's she supposed to do? Quietly fade in the background and not speak up while these white, old industry men try to take what she, a black woman, has built? They use her formula, her looks, her sounds and pay blogs and media to write stories, pay radio and use their platforms against her :smh:

I know you don't genuinely expect her to be like "oh, I understand these powerful white man's motivations, what they want and why they are doing this so I should just accept it and ignore my own motivations and what I want :sara:
