RichAssPiss 4,921
100% the underrated fall from grace was people making jokes about (and getting traction from it) MØ's dancing during her SNL "Beg for It" performance and then it just seemed to break a spell and people started coming for all he obvious appropriation baggage and questionable rap skills. But I really remember that being the moment it became internet trendy to laugh at Iggy.

First off, not a white gay. Her failure was a direct result of her ignorance and talent level. She said some pretty racist sh*t about multiple races and killed any chance of forming a proper following. The white girl from Australia shtick made people side eye her but once she opened her mouth and showed how dumb she was and how bad she sounded, that’s when her career ended. StrawberryBlond 14,822
Females have a hard enough time getting respected in rap as it is but she was always going to have a much harder job getting respect being white and Australian in addition. Australian rappers may exist but they don't have a hip hop culture and no Australian rapper had ever broke through until her so there was a sense of her being a bit of a weird gimmick at first. There were many accusations of her appropriating a black accent when she rapped as well. Thing is, I feel like when it came to her rap accent, she was never going to win. As she had lived in America for years by that point, it would've been natural for her to have an American twang and she probably felt that she wouldn't have been taken seriously if she rapped with an Australian accent. The only rappers who have hit the big time are American, so she perhaps felt it was the only route. Guaranteed that anyone saying she should have been authentic by rapping with an Aussie accent would've laughed at her for doing so. Then there was some things she wrote on her Twitter (most of it photoshopped) that was deemed racist and that really was the end at that point. Things like her having no freestyling abilities became a meme and there's even a radio interview she did where she was asked to freestyle and she passed off a verse from an existing song like it was a freestyle, which was quite embarrassing. Couple that with a lack of promo by her label who ended up shelving her planned second album, Digital Distortion (which had album cover art and everything, so had already cost the label money) just because the lead single wasn't taking off and she was done. It's sad because, ok, she may not be the best rapper but she certainly isn't the worst. While her material could be hit and miss, when she's on, she's on. The music she released after leaving T.I.'s management was good (not everyone was impressed with In My Defense but I thought it was her best work) and her EP, Survive The Summer, was amazing, it wasn't pop at all, it was for the true hip hop fans. And I watched reaction videos of people listening to it, they were impressed. Sadly, barely anyone bought it. She really doesn't have much of a fanbase. Her last album wasn't good enough for an apparent final release before retirement, so I'm glad she's coming back. I'm sure that if anyone else had released her material, it would have been accepted a whole lot more, I've certainly heard much worse come from other much more successful and respected rappers. She's always been really nice and never started drama either, which is so rare these days. I appreciate that she's at least stayed on the hip hop route even when she's not successful with it. I think that proves that she is genuine in her love for the genre. If she just saw it as a moneymaker, she would've dropped it like a hot potato the second it stopped being lucrative and would either have switched to pop or gone into a completely different career choice. But she stuck to her guns and said, no, hip hop is what I do. You have to respect that.

Women are under the scrutiny of both misogynistic men who want to see them fail and don’t take them seriously as well as queer people who hold them to way higher standards of behaviour. Yaaaas Gaga 926
I don't think she was ever going to have prolonged success. Sure she had some good hits back in 2014 but most of those featured other artists as well to help gain momentum.
