Hot take:

I think this is a genius release strategy in some ways. Yes, you have songs climb the charts but nowadays so much is determined by tik tok, etc. An old school release strategy, as in dropping a track a month ahead of time, can backfire as people can lose interest....and the days where people get numerous #1s off the same album are pretty much gone.

Better to drop the lead single a week ahead time so it can benefit from the PR around the album and the album can benefit around the PR for the song. It's a win/win situation. And then instead of trying to push a second single, in a climate where few people get numerous top five singles, dropping a second MV on a Tuesday will help with the album's first week of sales.

I wouldn't be shocked if she moved 900k copies her first week. No one is doing it like her anymore, and it's really impressive...and I say this as someone who isn't a big fan even if I like some of her songs.

The dystopian album probably ranks at #4 for me. Rep, Red, and folklore are my trio of favorites
