He tweeted: 'I hope you respect me: I'm gay. #happysunday'. The post has since been deleted. Shortly after Casillas' post, former rival and national team-mate Carles Puyol in a now also deleted tweet, wrote: 'It's time to tell our story, Iker' with a heart and kiss emoji. Puyol has two children with girlfriend Vanesa Lorenzo. Reports in Spain suggesting that the tweet was a joke in response to rumours about his post-divorce dating life after split from ex-wife Sara Carbonero. Attempting to clear up the incident, Iker Casillas wrote: "Hacked account. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community." The Real Madrid legend then received a wave of backlash. When Iker originally tweeted, the amount of homophobic trash I seen made me feel sick to the stomach. Then to admit that he was ‘hacked’ added insult to injury. The worst thing about it is that I’ve been told by STRAIGHT men on Twitter “not to think too much into it” and that it was a “joke”. Our community is not a joke.
