Also, regarding the second to last paragraph, with that thinking I presume you may say Gaga released BTW in 2011 to capitalize on the self-empowerment movement if you weren’t a Gaga fan. Rather than thinking there just may underlying themes and influences at play other than the obvious or first assumed 

Yes this is all true of the real life story but it is very not present in the show. That's the point. The ideas are hinted at, maybe given surface level lip service, but there is absolutely no actual exploration of those themes or ideas. It, like the exploration of how race influenced the case, is not a focus of the show nor is it the show's primary purpose. 

I agree wholeheartedly that the Dahmer story is a very interesting vessel to explore the ideas of LGBT life, homophobia, and societal pushback of that era. 

It's a shame that isn't what's happening in the show. It's a brain dead half hearted engagement with the material made by people clearly uninterested in doing anything more than regurgitating the Dahmer wikipedia article.

so i finally started the show and it's alright... it feels like a branch off the AHS + ACS tree

it really bothers me they cast a heart throb as the lead and included a lot of "sexy" jeff scenes, very uncomfortable to watch and the show isn't good enough to ignore how messy that is

one of the main things i kept thinking was "how much of this is ryan's horror fantasy stretching the facts and how much of this is actually real? did this man really caress a hunky mannequin? and why is every male character under the age of 40 totally shredded?"

this was what life was like before body shaming was frowned upon.   

I'm kind of kidding, but gay men at the time were conditioned to do ANYTHING to try to seem masculine and also to be "above reproach".  Also, you had to spend all your time cruising which meant being at the gym instead of seething on GGD at Starbucks.

So if you agree with most of the points made, why are you being contrarian, just for the sake of it? Just so you can take the high ground and say that you're being morally superior on a Lady Gaga forum, lol. It is representation, just not nice, comfortable representation, so you and people like you don't want to accept it as being LGBT content.
