Armenia occupied not only Nagarno Karabakh but also Azeri PROPER land for like 2 decades. This is the unfortunate consequences of doing that for so long. They need to settle this issue for once and for all on both ends. Both of them are expansionists.

I will moderate this comment showing the Armenian point of view.

Armenian-backed Artsak Republic got in posession of the ethnically Nagorno-Karabah (which had 95% Armenian population) and surrounding districts in the aftermath of the fall of URSS. Whether or not you want to believe this idea, an Armenian will argue that they needed to take those districts to prevent Azerbaijan from trying to reoccupy Artsak. They knew that Azerbaijan will not give up on its autonoums province - which despite being almost purely Armenian, was assigned to Azerbaijan basically by some higher ups in a Moscow office drawing borders on behalf of the actual natives. Then obviously the 2020 war broke out which concluded in a ceasefire which Azerbaijan violated plenty of times, making these border squirmishes illegal. Armenia is left alone in between two expansionist and increasingly hostile nations: Turkey and Azerbaijan as Russia (Armenia's supposed security provider) will not get involved on their behalf.

I know of the history of the part of land but snatching up huge swaths of Azeri proper land cannot and should not be excused. Like AT ALL. Taking over almost 20% of Azerbaijan's land in order to protect their occupation of Karabakh is just nefarious. Armenia also committed mass ethnic cleansing of the Azeris in that region (as the Azeris did to Armenias as well sadly).  Armenia and Azerbaijan had plenty of time to settle at least SOME part of the issue. Offering up at least some of those distracts back to Azerbaijan would and could have been a good sign / gesture when relations were SLIGHTLY thawing (like very slightly).

The fact Armenia took over Azeri lands bigger than Karabakh itself is really insane and people like to gloss over it:

Either way, both ends are wrong on the manner in which they have and are going about this.

Armenia did not handle the situation well back in the 90s - due to incredible levels of revanchism and indoctrination (I cannot really blame them, i hate nationalism of all sorts but their identity is based on surviving the genocide and defending their mountains at this point). Now Azerbaijan is acting with the same revanchism.

This is what happens when people have no respect for the rule of law, cooperation, and belief for possibility of conciliation.

I only hope the Azerbaijani govt will limit their ambitions with certain strategic advantages. Armenia is surrounded by hostile governments in two sides (at least for now in Turkey’s case, idk how figures other than Erdogan would handle the relations) and is heavily dependent on its land connection with Iran (the only country bar Russia the Armenians have friendly relations in the region).

If Azerbaijan attempts to connect their exclave on the Turkish border with Azerbaijan proper, Armenian connection with Iran will be lost and in the case of any conflict between Russia and Georgia we could see 2 million people starve.

Calls for peace need to be made NOW.

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

Sadly there is no resolution in sight when both sides say ''the other did it first''. The 2021 ceasefire when Azerbaijan got all its Azeri districts back could have been the end. There are many countries in the world today with border conflicts which do not start new wars (such as China who sees Taiwan as legally part of its territory), but Azerbaijan did, receiving some superficial scorn from EU but de facto support because Azerbaijan resources are too valuable. You are saying taking land from Azerbaijan should not be excused, an Armenian will say to you that can be excused if the aim is to protect those lands from a future takeover and new genocides (which Armenians did themselves to Azeris either way). This back and fourth will go on until the end of times unless both sides want to accept the status quo, or until Azerbaijan (who is the bigger country economically) will disband Armenia.
