Ukraine launches surprise counteroffensive in Kharkiv, takes back territory

Stunning news that has been unfortunately overshadowed by the passing of her Majesty:

On September 6th, Ukrainian launched a surprise counteroffensive in Kharkiv few have expected. In less than 72 hours, Ukraine has liberated 1000 square miles of land.

Earlier today, the strategically important city of Bilakliya has been liberated after russians were surrounded and refused to surrender, fighting to the last man. In spite of that, it took Ukraine only 24 hours to clear pockets of resistance.

They are now advancing on Kupiansk, aiming to create an encirclement pocket of around 3000 russians in Izym. On their way, they have liberated several towns: Schevschenkove, Semenivka, Volokhiv Yar, Savyntsi and several others.

American Think-tank "Institue for the Study of War" expects Kupiansk to be liberated within 72 hours, thus cutting off the russians in the south.

As they are liberating territory, they are greeted by joyful ukrainians waving and crying in joy:

Me too... Kinda reminiscent of Normandy pictures when France was being liberated. I hope it continues.

Also there are reports about an increasing number of russians who refuse to fight and quickly surrender because they believe "ukrainians are defending their homes". This is according to pro-Putin telegram channels. But we'll see. There's still a small minority in the russian army. But maybe their numbers will increase.

Russian troops have abandoned the strategically important cities of Kupyansk and Izyum, seemingly without up much of a fight against ukrainian troops

Phew looks like their biggest advance in the last 4 months now that they took over Izium. It also seems that they may try to retake Lysychansk in the Luhansk Oblast, just by Sievierodonetsk.

Too bad their advance in Kherson isn't that effective yet, hopefully Russian troops start to retreat more often

Yeah the Kherson offensive isn't a stalemate but much more difficult and bloody  
Ukraine is advancing slowly but at a heavy cost. I hope the collapse of the eastern front forces Putin to withdraw from Kherson.

Saw info about Russian occupation administration moving from northern Kharkiv fully to Belgorod, so at least one region could be safe soon. They want to focus on Donetsk now, so hopefully that also means they will start to retreat from Kherson too
