VTV 13,942
https://asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Unification-Church-and-politics/Religion-no-longer-taboo-in-Japan-as-Unification-Church-dominates-news TOKYO -- The separation of politics and religion ordained by the Japanese constitution "is not meant to foreclose political activities by religious institutions," Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida recently said. The statement, in a written reply to a reporter's question, was made on Aug. 15 amid growing public awareness of connections between the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, more commonly known by its former name the Unification Church, and the governing Liberal Democratic Party. If one thing is clear, it is that the relationship between religion and politics is no longer a taboo subject. It will likely be a major topic of discussion in the years ahead. StarstruckIllusion 53,567
Wait this kinda sucks. America is under threat of becoming a theocracy and christian nationalist nation by the extreme right and that’s bc those psychos don’t respect the separation of church and state at all… Obv people should practice personally but religious organizations being involved w politics? That’s sus…
Knife 7,080
It's probably less detrimental for Japan to do this over the U.S. because most of Japan is agnostic, but we'll see.
Chesescake 4,186
What a good excuse 🙂 now we found out the formal prime minister's party had been secretly collab with nasty religious movement, suddenly it's not about "foreclose political activities by religious institutions?" Keep it seperate please The minute you do allow mix of religion and politics you get a W bush making Bible lectures with his main administration people before they go sign some orders to bomb Irak and make thousands of innocent victims. It's always twisted into a PR tool right away once you open that door

Keep it separate please While both of those statements sound fine on paper, time and time again we've been shown that irl it's basically impossible - I don't believe there will be a world where religion is kept separate from politics and religious extremists don't force their beliefs onto other people SUCCESSFULLY, so... mayhaps it's a good idea to take up an issue with religion... just sayin It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!
Reginald 13,841
I hope to live to see the end of religion. This stuff is out of control and detrimental to our whole species
palma 8,909
Not related to topic but I love how you chose a pic of Gaga being welcomed by the Japanese fans speaking of Japan and religion OT: As far as I'm concerned Japan had never been a perfect democracy to the degree one would expect it to be given their HDI but this news is certainly a step in the WRONG direction. I cannot believe we're still being led by these kinds of folks Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

TonzaPOP123 142
Religions need to be destroyed one way or another, one day I swear and I am saying this as someone who considers herself a spiritual person and is interested in Hinduism and Buddhism. While religions must have come from somewhere, they have become out of control at this point.
