dove 531
maybe older fans tend to call people who stan her since ARTPOP "new fans" because they know how CRAZY it was to stan this woman during the fame - born this way eras... it was WILD so they just have another perspective idk if that makes any sense
2School4Cool 6,434
I feel like “more recent fans” and “newer fans” is different than flat out “new fans.” I’d say you’re a new fan if you became a fan during the current era (which is Chromatica at the moment). Someone who became a fan during ASIB is “newer” but not “new” since they’ve been a fan for a few years now. I’ve been a fan since BTW so I'm definitely not an OG fan, but I’m a longtime fan since I’ve supported her for 11 years. Overall though it doesn’t matter, a fan is a fan See The Best In Everyone

Jack3257 743
To be fair, I was SIX when Just Dance came out, so I had no idea who she was. I LOVED Born This Way when it came out (I didn’t know what the song was about or even what being gay was, but maybe this was a precursor to something). I became a legit fan in the Joanne era (I was 15 and was starting to develop my own taste in music. I felt like a “new fan” for the first three years. Then, I got to go to Enigma and J&P in Vegas for my 18th birthday. After that and experiencing the Chromatica era in real time (Stupid Love was even announced on my birthday), I felt like a legit fan.
Poker 3,713
I think it depends on pov. I’m a fan since poker face so everyone who’s been a fan after I consider them new fans lmao but not in a bad way. Kindness rules all.

So I guess that would make me a veteran monster?
MOT 3,029
I think you have to look at Gaga herself. ASIB basically saw the creation of a new Gaga, Pre-ASIB, she was a musician and fashion icon. Post-ASIB, she was a musician, fashion icon and movie star. That was a big leap and it must have created a huge number of new fans, and not just new fans but people from a whole different demographic. If you look at Gaga's career as a train journey, then every time she released an album she picked up new passengers, and the Jazzga and Joanne stations would probably have been very busy and made it standing room only. But when the train reached ASIB Junction, extra carriages were needed. So what am I saying ? I think ASIB is the most meaningful point around which to frame new and old. high culture 2,156
This is me reading the first post and now commenting. Today this moment in time I would say a new fan is anyone who came on Perfect Illusion / Joanne era or later. Joanne feels like the new modern Gaga and her mainstream fanbase feels like the same demographic since then. I don't think any shallow stans had not heard of Gaga before then. bpmMonkey 5,798
My first impulse was everything starting with the Joanne era, and I think this is still a good starting point in discussing the topic. But. Then I thought about sectioning old vs new not in regards to Years of Gaga’s career, but in years relative to the fans age. For example, when gaga popped first on the radio I was 14, so I definitely consider myself as an „old fan“. But imagine someone being 13/14 now and starting to stan her and all the good stuff. Would you still consider that person a „new“ fan in 14 years from now in relation to yourself who as been a fan since 2009? I’m very certain gaga will be around similar to Madonna/Cher in the future, so there will always be the OG Fans, but I think the idea of new vs old in regards to your starting point is almost more interesting than thinking of gaga eras. Schwerk 7,244
What also could be taken into account is that Gaga was 'harder to love' in the earlier years. To say it most harshly she was considered to be a butterface hermaphrodite weirdo who covered herself with masks. In general people had no idea she was a great singer, songwriter, pretty and a sweet person. So all us fellow weirdos gathered at her shows and we became this crazy family that stuck by her through the hard times. This doesn't make early fans better, but it is a different experience. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch
Galvon 1,868
I've been a fan since summer 2009. I kinda missed most of TF era then, but since it was still very recent and her carreer had just gone of the ground, it was still easy to find every interview, video's of live performances and see pics of all her looks from that time, so it still felt like I experienced the entire era. Benji 20,113
For me, a “new fan” is anyone who joined the fanbase around Born This Way and ARTPOP. There’s a divide between fans who stanned at the start and those that stanned during then. A really interesting one, “veteran fans” (08/09/10) all seem to highly rate Chromatica as it’s reminiscent of TF/TFM Gaga but a lot of the 12/13/14 intake don’t like it. Fans that joined around Joanne/ASIB are cool. I think they fall into the veteran or new labels as they explore her back catalogue.
Tinnitus15 51,570
I became a true fan in 2020.But don’t consider my self as a “new” fan, since I’ve been listening to her music and reading news about her since BTW.It’s just since 2020 I became a full STAN,coming here,Twitter and obsessing over her
