Why is there no mention of Gaga here?

From what I'm seeing, the art-pop genre points towards more experimental, visual artists. I'm seeing people such as The Beatles during their psychedelic phase, David Bowie with his character Ziggy Stardust and even SOPHIE.

Not to say that Gaga is not experimental AND visual, but the album ARTPOP bases itself around EDM beats and in my opinion, there is nothing avent-garde about either song except for ARTPOP (song). Hence why it may not be featured on the page.

Apparently this genre is a bit broad, anyway. Let me know if I explained it correctly.

I love how all three of y’all just kinda didn’t care to explain what the genre actually is besides saying “Gaga isn’t it” :mark: because looking around online it seems like a vague concept

Art pop could literally mean anything and yes ARTPOP is art pop because it has the intent to be art pop so ARTPOP is art pop

ARTPOP

but really ARTPOP is art pop

pop music influenced by art theories as well as ideas from other art mediums, such as fashion, fine art, cinema, and avant-garde literature.

yeah so art pop = pop music, not necessarily experimental music ala Björk

It’s not because it’s commercial that it’s not art pop, what matter is the influence of other art mediums

Like according to this definition art pop is not artsy pop music

Bad romance would be the epitome of an art pop song as it references multiple films, Venus too because it references Botticelli, applause too cause it references Koons, 911 too cause it references an author (the doll inside diamond boxes) but idk who I forgot

like really this doesn’t mean anything (like ARTPOP)

LMs flipped with Joanne which was still a pop album but with very little folk and country influences. Can't imagine the meltdowns if she ever made an art pop album. :billie:

Well yeah Gaga isn't an art pop artist, she's a pop (and jazz) artist

Even ARTPOP itself isn't really art pop (except maybe the title track)

i mean ARTPOP was more about making a commentary on the things that society paints onto the artist rather than making ‘artful’ pop music.  that’s why all the songs are hyperboles about sex, drugs, fashion, shallowness, fame hunger. that’s how society saw Gaga at the time. at least that’s what i thought she was trying to say
