Mister G 10,430
Nicki hates the fact that she’s not the “IT” Rap Girl. Even if you look at 2020 musically and how everybody was comparing which pop album was the definitive moment of the year between Future Nostalgia and Chromatica, both achieved critical success in many different ways. Gaga showed as her lyric states that this is her dance floor she fought for. Dua Lipa proved that she is a force to be taken seriously. Notice how not one of them said anything awful about the other and very likely never will because they know how important it is to support women in an already cruel industry that treats women horribly. Now with Nicki Minaj, she doesn’t like the fact that not only is she not the main staple “IT” girl in rap music, but that Cardi B and Megan both only a few years into their careers have chart topping success and of course a Grammy. Nicki has been dropping music since what 2007 when they were all mixtapes, and even with getting # 1’s and being so popular it’s not good enough. The way I see it, her approach how dare these other girls up and coming have more success than I do and I’ve been doing this longer. She’s not supporting women and she has no intention of ever being cordial with Cardi, or Megan or anyone who came before her because she’s so insecure that any other female rapper is a threat to her. Mirrion Rizzons 11,119
I understand supporting your favourite artist, and mass buying (if its what you want to do) BUT When artists (nicki, justin, etc.) encourage their fans to do it, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. How can an artist with mountains of money be so out of touch to EXPLOIT their fans to boost their ego? Maybe I'm looking into it too much but I bet there's tons of fans out there in difficult financial situations and they are encouraged by someone they idolise to empty their wallets and make the rich richer, just for bragging rights. No shade, genuinely asking I'm surprised cause here it literally didn't exist I'd say so. It spent many weeks in the top 10 of the australian, UK and canadian charts, among other music markets. Radio plays a big role on the h100 and ROM only managed to peak at like #10 on Pop radio so it struggled to stay afloat in the bh100 top 20, but the streams and sales speak for themselves - it did really well! In the UK, it has sold more than telephone and born this way to put it in perspective

It’s because, like you said, #1 debuts are driven by fans and most of them obviously won’t buy the song again. It doesn’t mean that the song won’t have longevity, it only means that the artist has a huge fanbase. “Rain On Me” was #1 for one week too and still ended up being a massive hit. But in America, multiple weeks at the top are extremely common, especially in the streaming age. In the UK, one week #1's used to be the way things were but when streaming was introduced, suddenly, songs were staying at the top for weeks as a matter of course. Our charts are now totally like American charts in that sense. And while fans obviously power a song to #1 on its debut week, it's not always fans. Gaga's Just Dance was her debut single, (not her debut week but before she had an album out, before she had any fans) and it was at the top for 3 weeks, closely followed by Pokerface. All of this before she had an established fanbase. And it's totally the case for one hit wonders, obviously. No one knew who Owl City, Far East Movement, Gotye, Baauer, Magic!, Omi, etc. were when they debuted their one and only hits but the public bought them and got them to the top, some before the streaming age. And yes, ROM was a hit despite only being #1 for one week because the public liked it as well as the fans. We know this because it didn't tumble dramatically from #1 the very next week. Nicki's songs on the other hand, all dropped like a stone in their second weeks, never to be seen again. That's the classic sign of a song that had no public support as only the public can keep a song going.
