joeynx4 1 Posted August 4, 2022 Share Posted August 4, 2022 Soo no one is talking about how monkeypox is extremely similar to smallpox, and smallpox was so bad it needed to be eradicated in every part of the globe. It is An existing virus but this new strain is extremely contagious also given the fact monkeypox testing is not available like Covid test and if you’re not a gay man they won’t test you. When smallpox was circulating we did not have the health care system we do today. The smallpox vaccine is currently being used to prevent monkeypox. You mean literally just like a ton of viruses when it comes to the elderly and immunocompromised? Most of the elderly have had the smallpox vaccine, and while its efficacy does wane, I imagine if the virus leaps into that demographic, they'll be bumped up to priority for vaccines. I also saw someone else on this thread mentioning that they’re trying to get it so they can reduce the amount of vaccine per person, so they’re able to maximize the usage and vaccinate more people faster. It helps that they already have a vaccine unlike COVID where it took a hot minute for it to be made. Hopefully the vaccine availability makes its way to your area soon!
