Monica Lewinsky asks Beyoncé to REMOVE her name!

This needs to stop. Once a song is out there, it should be a done deal and the artist should assume complete responsibility for what they’ve chosen to put out.

Caving to these demands is going to destroy the industry, and art itself.

I don't think we should be in the business of telling writers and poets what words they can and can't use.

That being said, reducing a woman's name to a synonym for a sex act is derogatory. I understand why Monica would be upset.

If she removes that, I wonder if people are going to be like, "now get rid of the Anna Mae lyric, and the sample from the Challenger disaster."

She’s not actually upset, she’s clearly joking. But the fact that people are taking it seriously and calling the lyric “derogatory” is hilarious

Yes, as someone said in other thread if it keeps this energy Beyoncé will have no lyrics in her songs in about a month or so.

I agree with this only if Bey changes it to "Bill Clinton'd all over my gown", which makes more sense anyway :ally:

Perhaps you missed her next tweet, which explains that laughing at things is a coping mechanism to deal with her humiliation.

Her other subsequent replies on twitter make it clear she isn't thrilled with Beyonce using her name the way she did.

Joking about an experience is something victims of bullying do to take ownership of their experience. It's how she has survived decades of being the target of sexist jokes.

I don't think Beyonce should be obligate to change this lyric or any other lyric, but there is no question that reducing a woman's name to a synonym for a sex act is derogatory.

It's all the more unsavory when the sex act in question is relating to an abuse of power dynamic between a man and a woman.

You are welcome to disagree.

Can they ****ing leave her alone? It reminds me of Gaga's ARTPOP era when suddenly everyone decided to say something negative about her.

I can think of several celebs who could take pointers from Monica on staying relevant. It seems every time there's a major news story, she crops up with a tweet.

I think she has every right to ask that if it's true. If you use someone's name in a song you should know there's a chance they won't want you to

Not that Beyonce should be obligated to change the lyric, but it's literally Monica's name she has the right to an opinion about it?
