Celebrities asserting this belief, which is no way an original opinion but is, in fact, the status quo, never ceases to amaze me. Are they getting paid to say this stuff? Because I can't think why they need to overstate something that so many people have already said.

Maybe if she didn't mention her own name in her songs, it would help to empower the average person. The songs that make me feel empowered are the ones that don't focus on specifics that might not apply to me. When I hear Beyonce sing, I always hear her singing for herself, I never imagine she's singing for anyone else. Thique was the only song that gave me a somewhat empowered feeling, everything else, no.

Because the media, fans and public won't shut up about how amazing she is as if they've never seen anyone on this level before when she really don't impress a lot of us. There's praise and then there's idolisation and it got beyond a joke in regards to Beyonce years ago. No, I don't think it's a fact that Beyonce is in her own league. And repeatedly stating this only makes people like me more irate. If she's so great, you wouldn't feel the need to state it constantly, even when people aren't interested in hearing it. The worst is when we're told that our opinions are wrong and we just need to educate ourselves on her performances. Lots of us have. And we're still not having it.

If anything, I think the opposite is true. My fave is Gaga, obviously, because I'm on this site. And Gaga can do everything Beyonce can and more. So, no, I don't feel in the least bit insecure in my fave's abilities. I know no one is better than her right now. And because of that, I don't feel the need to shout it from the rooftops because there's a quiet confidence in knowing something is true. More Beyonce fans should take note of that. Art is subjective, there's no point trying to tell people she's objectively good. Forcing someone to like something never works out in your favour. And actually, Gaga doesn't get anywhere near the level of praise she deserves. Where's all her articles proclaiming her the best performer of all time? Nowhere, because all those articles are being written about Beyonce. Even when Gaga's killing it on a stadium tour and Beyonce hasn't made one promo appearance for her new album, she's still getting articles written about how she's the best, even though her last big showstopping performance was in 2019 and she's literally done nothing on that level ever since (yet her fans repeatedly talk about it like it happened last week). That's why we're "pressed" as some would say.

Like a lot of people said I can't stand when people try to compare Beyonce to other artists like Gaga. They are completely different and they do different things, so it doesn't make sense to compare them. A saying my manager always says that stuck with me is "Don't compete where you don't compare."

Beyonce's performances are filled with tight, highly choreographed numbers with lots of dance breaks. Beyonce is not as theatric, dramatic, or unpredictable as every little move has been planned and rehearsed countless times. Could Gaga pull off performances like Run The World from the Billboard Awards or anything from the Formation tour? No. But could Beyonce pull off bleeding to death onstage, hatching from an egg, or riding around the stage as a half-woman half-motorcycle hybrid? No.

Gaga's performances are about storytelling. I could never picture Beyonce reciting a dramatic monologue alone on stage and then proceed to "murder a monster" with a sparkler bra like Paparazzi from TMB. I think they are actually complete opposites, as we know Gaga loves improvising onstage and letting the music completely take over her body even when performing Jazz. Beyonce is the QUEEN of choreographed numbers and Gaga is the QUEEN of theatrics.

It is also silly to compare them as Beyonce was on her fourth solo studio album when Gaga released The Fame. They are considered two of the best living performers for different reasons, just as their fans love them for different reasons.

Britney actually didn’t peak 20 years ago but whatever works for you. The difference between her and Beyonce is that she actually had iconic moments and memorable videography/discography and you don’t even have to be her fan to recognise whatever is linked to her. Byonce doesn’t have that. She is HUGE, LEGENDARY but she doesn’t have the recognition value and brand that Britney has. These are two different ladies so there is no need to bash one or the other tho.

I refuse to believe you went into your keyboard and typed out with a straight face that Beyoncé doesn’t have brand recognition or iconic moments in pop culture.

In all honesty, I'm surprised no one has mentioned how much of this is Beyonce's careful, concise and painstaking preservation of her public image. She is perhaps the only celebrity left to have maintained that aloofness and sense of being larger-than-life on this level, well into the age of social media and celebrities humanizing themselves online. I think a large part of how enamoured the public is with Beyonce is just classic PR, on a level that most celebrities haven't mastered. We don't know her or hear from her, she doesn't speak up unless it's a carefully articulated and likely directed/co-written public statement on issues like BLM and COVID. She doesn't have inter-celebrity conflict publicly, she doesn't let people into any aspect of her personal life until she decides to, which was even then through her music that sold millions.

If anything, this is with credit to her as a successful businessman just as much as a performer. Her performances themselves are designed to be impersonal spectacles. I agree with a lot of you that her shows and stage presence feel detached from the audience, almost uncharismatic, and I feel that her not feeding into parasocial relationships, and instead taking the route of emphasizing her position above the masses is something attractive and captivating to the public. A considerably large chunk of people really want public figures to worship and romanticise as much as possible, and Beyonce fills exactly that need. The Beyonce onstage, on albums, in visuals, in association with other brands and companies, is only a fraction of the real her; but it's the only fraction people need and want. And when she's successfully maintained that for 30 years, it's no wonder people consider her with such reverence.

There was some mention previously that Gaga seems disconnected, out-of-touch with her fanbase and with people outside of her circle in general. Her interactions are often considered awkward, and she perhaps doesn't have the same glorification from Gen Z as Beyonce does across generations. It just seems to me that her initial years of painstakingly trying to reciprocate the fanbase's parasocial relationship with her did more to damage her well-being and public image. I absolutely prefer Gaga's humanity onstage, personally, but that comes with the inevitable consequence that a lot of people can't stomach her flaws. I really don't see much that puts Gaga below Beyonce in terms of talent and output (we can surely be generous about the dancing because the physical strain on their health is nowhere near equal). People just don't glorify Gaga in the way they do their idea of Beyonce. And maybe, given Gaga's apparent resentment for fame in these recent years, that's for the best.

Maybe it's because they know what it takes to put on the productions she does and sees her executing them well. It's just a popular opinion; I highly doubt random celebs are getting paid to praise Beyoncé.

It impresses a lot of us. That's why you're seeing so much praise. It's the popular opinion at the moment. No need to get irate, Legend. It's fun dance music. We're supposed to be having fun.

Most of the Beyoncé praise is happening on a Beyoncé thread where it's kinda the whole topic. And everyone's opinion is valid but when someone hops on a thread obviously meant to praise an artist to bash them or can them overrated, it's obviously gonna cause some friction. And many of the "educate yourself" comments are in response to comments like "Renaissance is bad bc its self indulgent and cocky" are because the whole subgenre that the album is literally designed to be self indulgent and self hyping. That's ballroom. It's dramatic, campy showboating.

There have been like 10 articles about Gaga's tour being a 5-star event. The album she's touring dropped in 2020. Renaissance was released just now. That's why she's also in the spotlight.

We do the same thing by constantly talking about how perfect Born This Way and its tour we're even though it was like a decade ago. Beyoncé fans talk about Homecoming so much because there's literally nothing like it. That's their BTWB.

I'm not picking apart your comment to attack you, I promise, queen. I'm using yours because it's the most comprehensive critique I've seen on here so far that raises many different points. I've also noticed that you're pretty bothered by this, and I want to see you enjoy yourself on here. It's completely fine to not like Beyoncé or her new album. I hope you're able to focus on the things you enjoy on here and not let the praise of another artist get you down. Quoth ARTPOP: "stop the drama, start the music"! We have a whole Chromatica Ball to be excited about 💜💜💜

honestly I agree, while I like gaga as a performer/musician/actress/actress/fashion icon better, beyonce is at the top of her own league. That being high production value performances and infusing r+b, soul, rap, and dance into cohesive albums. Nobody has as quite of a polished image as her.

that being said i'm kinda tired of mostly white women hyping her up so much and they don't even listen to her music :billie:. like the amount of white women at work with beyonce as their slack status when her album dropped was wild, especially when asked most of them can only name songs off sasha fierce. I knew a girl in high school who proclaimed that she was the "biggest beyonce fan in the world" and she didn't even know the song irreplaceable :billie:. not sure what theyre trying to gain from fawning over her publicly, like just listen to her music idk lol

edit: forgot to add that for the longest time the head of hr/people ops at my company had her name written as 'beyoncè' in her twitter bio :billie:

They’re different and people‘s taste in music and performances are different too.  There is no „best performer“ because it can’t be scientifically measured or proven. It is highly subjective. Some prefer more choreographed dances, others prefer more interaction with the audience, live vocals or more storytelling… I myself don’t like when artists lipsync which I have heard Beyoncé does sometimes (correct me if I’m wrong) but that’s generally a no-go for me for a performer (my personal opinion)

They all deserve their spot and we can all enjoy different music and performances without hating on other artists.

We all like different things & that’s a good thing.

I feel that Beyoncé and Gaga complement each other super well, as both have been very successful artists during this century. Both have pushed the boundaries of mainstream music within the last fifteen years and both are excellent vocalists. Both are in their own league in my opinion.

She has no peers in what she does—that classic performing stuff. She’s electrifying. Not even Gaga can do that. Not one from the industry alive.

But as others have said, some people like Gaga are as brilliant but in other ways. Gaga can’t do the whole perfectly choreographed thing with the slickest visuals. There’s always something kooky with her and that’s fine. But Beyoncé is not as good as an actress or a jazz singer.

I personally couldn’t :billie: I feel like in my country she’s not even that famous whereas Britney was huge at the time & every girl wanted to be like her. :teehee: (including me) good old times
