Marvel Phase 4 and 5 announcements

Yes, Doctor Strange was ok, I liked it but more just liked Wanda destroying but there was very little basis and it was very obvious that they really just wanted her because she could become so powerful (there is literally a video of someone (idk if it was the director or who) saying that they wanted her and didn't want another movie to have her, so her becoming a villain was a forced ego thing, as you said making it feeling thin AND convoluted).

Phase 4 just seems to have forgotten how to make good, convincing movies and the tv shows are also struggling and only really finding success when they are highly stylised (WandaVision). And the fact that their best show was the first thing from phase 4 and it has been downhill ever since is very concerning, the only thing I have some faith for at this point is the next Black Panther movie but that's the end of phase 4 and everything else has been ranging from good and enjoyable (Hawkeye + Ms Marvel) to actually bad (FATWS). If Marvel (and Disney) are so set on pushing out content at such a rapid pace and over-running theatres with their films, the least that they could do at this point would be to actually have it be good and something worth going to see. otherwise it is just going to hurt them and then subsequently theatres who have only been pushing Disney content for the past however long.

And I know people have said this is like back to square one but like…it can’t be lol we have 15 years of films now. There is no going back today square one unless you legit DO go back and restart from scratch. And I think that’s some of the issue here; they’re trying to do the groundwork sh*t they did with phase 1 but it’s just not giving because at least phase 1 culminated to avengers and we knew that early on from the end of hulk; hell, the end of iron man. It wasn’t as laid out as it is now but we knew what was coming. PLUS that phase has sequels in it so the characters that moved up to avengers made sense. This feels like way too much of a scattershot to see what sticks and maybe it’ll come together but certainly not in Black Panther Lmao from the plot leaks it seems more like the rest of this stuff was killing time before Black Panther gets the game going again

Yeah if I remember rightly before Raimi was brought in, the original direction was they wanted to make it more of an R Rated dark supernatural horror with Cthon as the villain and have her corruption from the Darkhold happen over the course of the film as she was searching for Billy & Tommy in secret. Shame Disney wanted a more toned down version and a high profile director.

But considering they’re doing secret wars in 3 years, plus the fact Liz Olsen wants a break from the MCU now, and the fact they’d have to had fit in her villain movie, her amnesia & redemption movie moment and then have her ready to lead and train the Young Avengers all in such a short time… it would’ve been a lot

yes, I agree they cannot and should not go back to square one but if this whole saga is going to have everything involving the multiverse there is going to be a problem or they are going to need a recap of the multiverse at the start of each movie because I cannot keep up nor remember everything. '

Yes, exactly, they are struggling to build character arc across movies while also being able to have character arcs in movies, everything seems to be more self contained than ever despite them trying to make it all connected. 

I haven't seen Black Panther leaks (and I don't intend to) but that is truely I think going to be a make it or break it type movie for them especially with how the latest Thor has been received. It's certainly one of my more anticipated movies and from the reception of the trailer a lot of people are going to be tuning in.
