China's Tianwen-1 orbiter has sent back a high-resolution image of Phobos, the innermost and larger of the two natural satellites of Mars. The image was acquired by a high-resolution camera on the Tianwen-1 orbiter which was about 5,000 kilometers away from Phobos. In the picture, Phobos can be seen as an irregularly shaped object like a potato. Öpik, an impact crater on Phoboscan also be seen.

And its orbit isn't stable either :lolly:

I think it was in the next 200 million years or so its orbit will degrade to the point that it'll fall into Mars :bradley:

What a sight for any colonists though :flutter: you know, before they die from the giant astroid impact :flutter:

Phobos is the god of fear :ally:

And Deimos, Mars' other moon, is the "personification of terror".

Perfect names for the moons of a planet named after the god of war :diane:

...or the god of fertility if you ask the Italians, apparently :laughga:

Whoever named them, they had a concept just like Gaga when she recorded The Fame Monster :ally:

Since we’re talking about moons and names. Are all the other “moons” named after THE Moon? Or why doesn’t Earth’s moon have a name for itself?

and why do we call some stars “sun” if the suns are just stars? And THE Sun is a star named Sun?!!!

because at the time it was thought that there were no other planets. The solar system was composed only of the earth, the moon and the sun. So there was no point in giving them a name
