I think they missed their opportunity with Katy. If they didn’t award her anything during her Teenage Dreams days, it’s not now they’re gonna do it.

Yeah ... That or PRISM

Can we agree that Katy Perry's first Grammy is way way way long overdue? I mean she is literally an elite main pop girl for crying out loud with a few decade and generation defining singles.

For her I think it was more about the timing. Teenage dream lost to Gaga, Prism lost to Lorde and Sam Smith. There’s no way she was winning over TFM or Royals.

Björk has no grammys and is always innovating.

Taylor has a few, and doesn't really change her sound, it's always in the same ball court

It makes sense. If someone wins a Grammy for a safe album, it sends the message that being safe is the way to win awards, so nominees will emulate that same sound. And the winners are now safe in the knowledge they have a Grammy, have ticked it off their bucket list and can now have the freedom to try something that challenges the listener a bit more. But I also think losing Grammys has caused some artists to experiment more, maybe to see if they try throwing everything at the wall, eventually, the academy will decide they've got it right?
