Recreation of ancient Egyptian garden on display for the first time

The first ancient Egyptian garden in the world has been recreated and is now open to the public.

The Temple Garden at Hamilton Gardens is based on a typical temple from the Middle Kingdom period (2040 BCE to 1782 BCE). Temple gardens produced floral, vegetable, and fruit offerings for these sacred rituals.

They grew the plants used in perfumes for anointing statues to the gods and garlands of flowers for religious processions.

Symbolism was a key feature of these gardens (as it was in all of Ancient Egypt). In addition to highly recognisable hieroglyphics, many individual elements of these temple courts were also symbolic.

“For ancient Egyptians, life on earth was a preparation for the dangerous journey into the afterlife. Temples and their gardens were a meeting place between heaven, earth, and the underworld,” said Lucy Ryan.

As part of his research, Sergel traveled to Egypt in 2018 and also drew on the expertise of Egyptologists at Oxford University and in New Zealand. “We know what colors were used due to research on sealed tombs and chemical analysis, and they really were this bright,” Sergel said.

The Hamilton Gardens aren't really this like.. historically accurate depiction or experience... they're literally just a collection of gardens themed after different places/times in the world. It's just a cute little free tourist experience    a nice place to have a picnic

The Age of the Pyramids was almost 3.000 years before Christ, 2500 years before the foundation of Roman Republic. So in a true sense Egypt and Rome were not contemporaneous, however there is a certain link and continuity between the two. The Romans were aware of the importance of Egypt and emperors used to frequently bring Egyptian artefacts and specially obelisks to Rome to validate their power, moreover for a long time the eastern half of the Roman Empire (Egypt, Sinai, the Levant etc) was the wealthiest.

The Egyptians were responsible for so many early arhitectural, cultural landmarks thousands of years ago, this only raises the question why did they abruptly stop sometime in the Bronze Age, when all societies in the Meditereanean collapsed and civilization was suddenly was sent back to square 0. People love to wonder why exactly did this even happen (natural disaster, invasion of the sea people or both?) and how much quicker civilization would have evolved without it.

Wasn't blue a very difficult color to get? But other than that, it looks cute! It's hard for me to imagine human kind has lived in a very different way than we do today

That's my point  it IS cheap. Noone was claiming it was some 'accurate representation'. It's just a tacky, free, tourist spot
