The deputy director of the Media Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Zaitsev, wants Moldova to have a ''balanced'' positions on military cooperation with the West. Russia wants Moldova to be neutral, demilitarized in spite of the fact that Russia is currently military occupying 10% of its territory. Paradoxically, as 1k troops of the Russian Army are illegally stationed on Moldovan soil, Russia's main priority are external factors that could ''undermine'' Moldova's status of neutrality, namely Moldova's ascension to EU and Liz Truss proposal for NATO to equip Moldova to NATO standards (which Moldova refused). In other words, saying ''only we get to be militarized, you are a smaller nation at our doorsteps so you don't have the right to an Army''.
