I don't see how logically any of those blocs could go to war with another of the blocs without ultimately being prepared to use nuclear weapons, which is another way of saying that it can't happen. Eh, that polling is from people who've been fed propaganda and/or threatened so I don't put a terrible amount of faith in that number. I choose to believe the reports that the rest of the Russian government thinks his actions are counterintuitive and bad for Russia. I don't doubt for a moment that the number is inflated, but everything points to the fact that most Russians support the war and Putin. Russian society as a whole agrees with his expansionist actions (though yes, we have many, many exceptions). Basically - Putin represents at a small scale what exists on a bigger scale. He is not the odd one out, he happens to be in power now but if it wasn't him it was someone with the same worldview as him. 100% people are being fed propaganda cultivating these tendencies, but this doesn't mean they are necessarily volatile in their views. There are more Russians that believe in these ideals and back the idea of hurting "the West" than those who are not - especially outside Moscow which tends to be more liberal than average.
