Hold My Hand won't be a hit.

When the song first dropped early this month and barely made an impact on the charts, people were saying the song would gain traction once the film was released, but now even after a week of the movie's release (which has been making record-shattering box office numbers), the song fell from its debut position of #82 to #98 on the Billboard 100 chart.

Many people were positioning HMH to be her next Shallow, but the reason Shallow did so well was because it was a love song that banked on the chemistry between Gaga and Bradley, on and off-screen. It got to a point where the media and fans were even speculating a possible love triangle between Gaga and Bradley themselves, which only generated additional publicity for the movie and by proxy, their song. 

In contrast to that, what does HMH have? A love story between Gaga and Tom Cruise's plane? 

Time will be the ultimate truth teller, of course, but based off of how I feel at the moment, I don't think HMH will be a hit.

The release was very quick and too near the release of the movie. tbh i was in shock when i even heard there was a second one. but it's a side -very side- project with just a single. many artists still don't even do this where i feel they dont have the time or the pay out they would need but they ain't gaga

I hear you, I understand that people expected a bigger debut. But I really believe it will grow as the movie expands its reach. This movie will be in theatres likely all summer. It was Tom’s biggest box office debut ever. Also, Gaga hasn’t performed it live yet anywhere. Once there are live videos of her performing it (possibly from CBT) on YouTube, streaming will inevitably pick up. Shallow went number 1 like almost a year after it came out. Also the song is geared toward Adult Contemporary radio which is a much slower roll, but ultimately wider impact. Give it time. Call me delusional idc! I believe in HMH 🤝

It will do well enough I think. There's still time for it to rise on the charts. No it won't be the monster hit with the GP that many hoped for/predicted.

Shallow was not supposed to be a hit according to many fans here, but here we are, using Shallow against HMH

All I know for sure is, they (and I mean like Tom & the film side even more than the label) will PUSH it, they want a 'Take my breath away' level theme song. Tom will probably get the scientologists involved if it dosent happen soon

We really won't know until awards season. Shallow wasn't a hit until it was played at the Oscars, and was shunned by the fan base from the beginning.

Well, let's not use Shallow as the litmus test, considering many people on this site thought the song was going to flop. Also, it's still early. Yes, the first weekend happened, but let's see what it looks like for the next couple of weeks (as more and more people see the movie). Also, we have to wait for awards season. I'm sure HMH is going to be a big contender for Best Original Song.

But regardless, if it's a hit, that's obviously great, and if it's not a hit, that's completely fine too. Not every Gaga song is going to be a smash hit and it's not the end of the world if that happens.

now y'all are saying that shallow was a hit AFTER it was played at the oscars? AFTER? seriously? for the first second i heard Gaga's growls in shallow my entire booty got mf CHILLLS, it was electrifying! 

shallow is the definition of instant classic! i do not want to hear again that it got the success it got thanks to a performance or a pseudo fake movie romance.
