eh seems kinda like a cop out to me

gays being unacknowledged is not a beautiful thing imo

there is an overtly gay character on the show tho so... i disagree! perhaps will is just figuring it out. how many of us gays didnt come out until like 20s lol

Wowww some of yall goin off about the lack of representation must not know anything about iconic legend, Miss Robin. Stranger things is bold enough to directly talk about gayness-- its just not will's journey. Maybe season 5 it will be who knows?

I can't relate to the disapproval of lack of representation for gay characters in absolutely every show. I don't care what a character's sexuality is if it doesn't add anything to the plot. Not every character needs to have a sexuality acknowledge on the show. There are undertones that suggest that he has feelings for Mike. Those absolutely do not need to be explored. That said, calling it "the beauty of it" is questionable.

idk i always knew i was gay i figured people who don’t come out til later are more dealing with like… family being homophobic and stuff like that plus being very deeply closeted because of family situations like that

Feel like y'all joke way too much about Millie being homophobic when this is 100% made up. It might be funny to some but having to witness that as a young teenager how people joke about you being homophobic as a joke is just ridiculous and uncalled for.

Some have that experience but I wouldn’t call knowing early a super common thing. Most gay people only really begin becoming aware of it in their mid to late teens, sometimes even later. Especially taking into context that this show is set in the 80s and kids who lived in a small town would not be educated or knowledgable about being gay so even if they did become aware sooner, they’d not know what to do with it.

Knowing early is very much a luxury of the time you live in (the age of the internet especially), the region you live in, and the environment you grow up in. Many, especially those who don’t live in urban areas, will not begin to blossom and explore their sexual identity until they’re an adult because they don’t have the luxury if being exposed to it or knowledgable about it.

The character not knowing he’s gay as a teen would be very in line with life in the 80s.

Why is it so difficult for you to believe that not everyone got to have your experience? Like it’s great that you got to find yourself early, but not all of us were that fortunate.

no i’m saying like that doesn’t make any scientific sense to me lol it’s not like most straight people don’t know that they’re not gay until they’re adults, i think puberty is usually around when people understand their sexuality.

it mostly sounds like you’re just making stuff up, sorry to offend though

Well, not only is Will is deeply traumatized but if i recall, his dad actually calls him some derogatory terms in one of the earlier seasons....

Receipts from google:

“Joyce: 'He’s a sensitive kid. Lonnie used to say he was queer. Called him a ***.'

Hopper: '...Is he?'

Joyce: 'He’s missing, is what he is!'”

— Joyce Byers, Stranger Things, Stranger Things Season 1: Chapter One

So... homophobic father, check.

Also, stranger things takes place in the 80s, during the HIV/AIDS epidemic so... strong societal homophobia was an influence as well.

Lol im analyzing tf out of a fictional story right now

It's a real experience, I don't know about it being a majority but you need only look online to find people that figured it out later. There's probably people on here that could tell you about it
