My questions was why we are seething over this. Almost everyone here wants these sanctions to help the situation, on the other hand they like their jobs and food on the table. Germany is heavily dependent on energy imports, thats shitty, but it is how it is right now. Also Hungary is the country which vetoed a lot against the oil embargo, not Germany. Do you realistically believe that German people will starve and loose their livelihoods if Germany stops paying Russia for gas? Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Bulgaria - countries less economically developed than Germany - were also dependent on Russian gas and they no longer import it. Times will be tough but we’ll get through it. We wouldn’t our countries to be annexed to Russia so we shouldn’t expect Ukrainians to lose their’s either. I‘m not going to argue with you about how it feels for me living in the country you are talking about and how the sanctions are taking effect here. I said I understand the demand for more action on the side of the government but it has to be reasonable and thought out. I live in the UK and there’s already plans for scheduled power cuts every day in winter during peak times to help conserve energy whilst we invest in better options than importing. I’m not looking forward to short work days in the cold with no power but if it’s what we have to do to then it’s what we have to do. What makes a lot of Europeans angry at France and Germany is their approach feels like it’s more hoping Putin will just hurry up and win and the problem will go “away” like Putin isn’t eyeing up other border countries. You living in 2022 Germany are probably, from an economic standpoint, in a better position than me living in Ukraine-bordering Romania. Germany IS the economic powerhouse of Europe, I just struggle to see how harsher sanctions will lower the living standards in Germany to unbearable extends. Also, why approach this only from an economic standpoint when geopolitcs are also greatly at play. Economy is not the be and end of everything, to countries like Poland or the Baltics the focus is to have Russia as far away from EU's borders as possible.
