The 2022 Billboard Music Awards delivered an average 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.11 million viewers across its three-hour broadcast on NBC, slipping even lower from the previous year’s fast affiliates (0.7, 2.8M).

awards ceremonies seems to be so uninteresting to the average TV viewers, that they become fillers

I switched it on, saw racist Morgan Wallen win an award, and switched it right off.

Nope.

(And not only is the dude a blatant racist, but he got booted from SNL last year for flouting Covid protocols and making out with random women days before he was supposed to perform; I believe this was pre-vaccine when performers had to isolate for like a week or two before coming on the show)

I didn't realize till the day before and I already had made plans so I didn't whatch :enigma:

I think the big issue now is there's too many awards for the level of interest from the public. The public doesn't wanna keep up with all this anymore

I bet you if you only had a few major ones like the Grammys & VMAs for example they might have more ratings cuz then it's a bigger event that takes all year to get to and it's a true highlight of the music industry worth getting hyped for

But dividing it by so many events all year like Grammys, VMAs, AMAs, Billboard Music Awards, people's choice awards, World Music Awards, EMAs, MMVAs

Like people won't got time or interest to follow so many and so they end up whatching none

I don’t understand the point of these shows anymore tbh. Sure, I watched the VMA’s and the Grammys in 2009 but it’s a different time now.

Plus we know even the Grammys (which was always seen as the prestige award) is all fake and organised by managers etc.

Just feels like a waste of time to watch them, same with film.

I feel like award shows want too much these days anyway. A big line-up, nominations, big stage, performances, red carpet and something that goes viral as cherry on top is a concept that isn't fitting anymore. It's either a certain celebrity or performance people watch it or if it's a really special award that is given is presented like the Grammy's but even that is going downhill. The pandemic VMA's show was way more sophisticated to watch imo. It was lowkey but actually felt more pleasing and really refreshing to watch with the green screen stage compared to the normal VMAs. It felt more interactive with their red carpet looks posted on Insta and performances from all over. Something like this I would actually switch on to watch again
