Best Disney direct to video sequel/prequel/midquel?

Overall these movies aren't very popular and I can see why. Though some of these sequels are better than others, none can compete with the classic Disney movies. Not that they were meant to do that. I've seen a lot of people online hating on the animation of these sequels. For direct to dvd release most of these movies look fine imo.

These were some of the best I think:

The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000)

I actually saw this one before the first one, because of the Disney vault at the time Ig. But I kinda knew the story of TLM so I didn't really mis context. When I watched it as a kid I could relate to Melody (Ariels daughter), I mean we all wanted to be a mermaid at some point, right? I also liked Morgana, but I can see why Ursula is way more popular and I agree. Looking back, this movie is kinda unique as Ariel happens to be the only Disney princess with a kid. It's also fun to see how adult she looks, with her bun, being around 28 instead of 16. Even flaunder grew up.

Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (2007)

This one is so over the top, I can't say deside if I like it or not. It's defenitly entertaining and and the animation is quite decent. The stepmother steals the fairy godmother's wand, Cinderella takes her life in her own hands, the prince has a lot more screentime, there are some nice moments with Anastacia. It's actually very good, for a Disney sequel, but I don't think I count it as canon.

I also have a soft spot for the Lion King sequels, especially the third one which retells the first movie from the perspective of Timon and Pumba and how they met.

I haven't seen them in ages but as a child I remember loving the Aladdin sequels. And the tv series as well.

I remember watching Lion King 2 a million times. Had no idea it was a direct to video sequel til years later.

I always liked Scamp's Adventure (Lady and the Tramp II). Probably because I grew up with it on VHS but it has some really nice songs and the story is quite cute. I actually think it's better than the first 🫢

Omg Little Mermaid 2 is gorgeous 

and The Lion King 2 is just as strong as the original in My opinion of course. I love Zira!

I feel like the animation didn’t bother me as much because I was obsessed with The Little Mermaid and Hercules tv shows and that animation was closer to this. Some of these movies were actually incorporated into the stories of the shows too. My favorites definitely were The Little Mermaid II, An Extremely Goofy Movie, and any of the Lilo & Stitch sequels. I loved those!

I don't think I ever watched the Aladdin tv series.

I use to really like the Tarzan tv series. Queen La is an underated Disney Villain.

No most of the animation didn't bother me either, but I've seen a lot of people online hating on it, that's why I mentioned it. Obviously the animation looks cheaper. As they were for straight to video release, I think they weren't as bad as some people say. I agree that the animation from most of the tv shows from the 90s were worse, but tv animation never looks as good as movie animation, definitely not 30 years ago.
