There is a possibility that 12 US cities are selected. Baltimore/DC and Nashville could benefit the most from this. Maybe Boston. We find out tomorrow at 2PM PST!

Okay Canadian journalist just said he’s hearing Vancouver will be awarded six games which would leave Toronto with four or possibly less. Canadians get ready for the possibility of Toronto being sidelined in these games in favor of the west coast.

And why are you crying about the US hosting? As if South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, and Italy (to name a few past hosts) were utopias when they hosted.

Several cities are planning watch parties for the announcement. Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Seattle are some. Have they been tipped off? 👀 Are they jumping the gun? The last time the US hosted the World Cup Kansas City was so sure they were going to be selected that they made shirts to celebrate but then they weren’t selected. Risky risky.

Nashville is still weighing its stadium options as of YESTERDAY. Babes, you had FIVE years to get this straightened out. Just about every other city had their plan written in stone since before the candidate short list was announced last year. The only real exception was Los Angeles but they already completed their shiny new stadium and are offering it as a cherry on top.

Don't be shading Nashville.

We're going through EXTREME growing pains right now. FIFA came here and loved the city and everything that was offered. We're tremendously upgrading our airport, we have nothing but hotels here since our economy is based on tourism (hence the housing prices and issues), we have a huge new convention center that can host other activities, we just built the largest soccer specific stadium in North America that has been having nearly sold out games every home single game, and we are building a new domed football stadium that would be complete by then.

The latter is the only issue FIFA is apparently having with Nashville, as are like 70% of the residents here. Nissan Stadium is huge and good enough for an event this size, but it's "supposedly" going to take billions to repair and enhance it, and we don't want to pay for that sh*t. Same for building a new one, but the state, team, and business lobbyists want the new one so we can host the Super Bowl.

The BIGGEST issue is that we have a completely non-existent transit system, and the traffic and roads here are horrendous. I want this to go through because I like soccer, and it would be incredible, but also mostly because it will force the hand of the Council and idiot penny-pinching conservatives to agree with building a transit system that we already tried to do, but they shot down "because taxes".

I think it’s fair to criticize Nashville for their poor timing on stadium discussions. When you have such a competitive group of cities fighting for a slot you don’t want to do anything to make FIFA second guess your bid. If officials in the city really took this bid seriously they would’ve looked into plans for a stadium much earlier. The bidding process started five years ago. That gave them a window of nine years to have a stadium completed and ready for game day. We’re over half of the way there and they’re still not sure. 
 

Luckily Nashville is still in the running because of its central location and reputation but if it gets skipped it’s gonna be entirely on the city.
