My mother who is an ACTUAL raging homophobe and transphobe (and not the comedian with poor touchy-subject-boundaries-kind 🤡) literally cried during that stand up as I almost did too. That story was enough to touch that cold hag’s heart. 
 

Let them live whatever narrative they want. It’s their choice. People often trap themselves in psychologically molded prisons. It’s not our responsibility to save or change them. It’s their responsibility to learn for themselves. Just like my mother did.

This was not funny. It was a decoy throw to get attention. Dave’s humor has always been centrally provocative (he’s even called out Madonna’s fetish for black men in throwaway lines in a movie before lmao). It’s apart of his approach even though it hasn’t aged well with the birth of cancel culture and the defected population of people who cannot let down their defenses/guards and just laugh for once. It’s a nation addicted to thinking about their own pain. (But fair enough some pains cannot be forgotten or just excused especially when it comes to things like this) Dave did not say he was team TERF because he thought it was just “funny” to small minded people (keep in mind this man knows his audience very well) he said it because he knew it’d get the attention from the masses so he could get more attention on the real message he had to give (which is the typically approach and setup most comedians use when it comes to stand up), and also guarantee that people would keep talking about his release. Was it in poor taste ? Of course. But is that expected of Dave Chappelle? Of course. Anyone who’s seen any of his stand ups know not to put anything past this man. He pressed buttons, he knows it and he likes it because he’s using it against you so you hear what he has to say.

I've seen the jokes from the original special and didn't think they crossed the line too far. I've always watched comedians (like Lisa Lampanelli) who were extremely vulgar and make off color jokes but it was passable in the name of a good natured laugh. There was some amount of love behind every punchline and it brought people together. Normalized things.

Since then though, he's dug into those beliefs as a reaction to his "cancelling" (honestly can we stop using that stupid term too?).

"I'm team TERF" he said, while defending notorious transphobe JK Rowling. He agrees with her that "gender is a fact" and says he's invested in it because he has kids. I guess implying he believes in the bullsh*t about queer people indoctrinating children. He says women are right to view trans women in the same way black people view whites in blackface.

Anyone who doesn't think he's a transphobe is kidding themselves tbh. He may have only been flirting with the idea for a laugh previously, which is fine depending on where your personal line in the sand is, but he's gone off the deep end because some people online felt he went too far before. He's trying to piss people off now. It's gross.

And his story about having a trans friend? If it's even real  it still doesn't excuse the harm he's doing by digging his heels into this asinine position.

Tell your jokes, sure, but the jokes are less and less funny each time because even he's not laughing anymore.
