You can literally turn a physical object into an NFT, let's say Mona Lisa could become an NFT. All NFTs do is registering a token into the blockchain which shows that whatever you are buying is legitimate. So yes, NFTs can be good. In terms of physical items, it can be verified immediately without the need of a middle man to verify it for you which takes days. Also since everything is becoming digitalized why not turn digital items into NFTs if they have worth anyway? We don't live in a physical world only anymore and the source of power becomes greener with time. I am pretty sure most people consume more power than what it takes to mint an NFT. I don't see anyone react this way to worse things that pollutes our planet, people's priorities are whack.

The concept of a new way to sell digital art is interesting but the execution of NFTs is a mess. They hold no real value or legitimacy. All they boil down to is a receipt of ownership over something you most likely don't even own. When it comes to legitimacy, Artists everyday are having their work stolen and minted on the blockchain as NFTs. One of the most popular sites opensea is notorious for being mostly stolen work. Unless there's a change in only allowing verified art to be minted then NFTs will never be a solid source when it comes to checking if something is legitimate. To me I think if you want to buy digital artwork then just go directly to the artist and buy the copyright or a license from them directly. NFTs have a lot of conceptual, legal and environmental issues to work out before I'd even consider them a viable option.

NFTs were made to one day be used as a way to tokenize and verify physical objects. NFTs will be exploited until we regulate it.
