how would you revive katy’s musical career

I wanna see another I kissed a girl would be great, but I just don't see her fully comitting to that vibe with how she is now. Sadly I think she kinda shot herself in the foot with Witness and Smile. She was so dedicated to selling herself as some goofy "how do you do, fellow kids?" mom that it's hard to take her seriously now if she goes back to bombshell mode (which quite frankly I don't think she has any interest in). A Vegas residency is very fitting for her career, and as someone has said I think festivals would be great too. Musically/visually speaking I thought Never Really Over and Harleys in Hawaii were quite convincing.

Honestly, she can't gain back mainstream success (besides performing her old hits). It's not really about her, it's more about the current trends. Pop is dead and nowadays snoozefests like Billie Eilish are topping the charts for some reason. Katy is campy to the core, and there's no place for that anymore. It's all serious and depressing, and if it's not, it's seen as cheesy. Unless the tide changes, Katy won't get much bigger again.

Make music for people her own age instead of chasing tweens.

She has the songwriting talent to make good music, but she keeps pulling back and making cheesy and cringey music

A full image / sound shift similar to the one Miley Cyrus is doing very successfully at the moment.
Katy’s at a point in her career she didn’t even need to chase mega hits.
I find what Miley does therefore so smart, she plays the long game.

It's all about ditching the juvenile aesthetic. No more wacky outfits, silly music videos, cartoonish live shows and goofball behaviour. That schtick hasn't worked in a long time, it's clear something's broken here and needs to be fixed. Appealing to the kid/teen market is pointless as they think she's too old to be relevant and aren't interested anymore - harsh but true. It's time to focus on being serious, she's always about making ballads when left to her own devices, it's clear this is where her heart is. More acoustic ballads with her guitar and maybe some duets with respected vocalists. I thought her duet with Darius Rucker for Only Love at the AMAs was heartfelt and brilliant and where she should go in her new role as an engaged mother of a two year old. And if she wants to do more uptempo stuff, then work in the vein of One Of The Boys, but a mature take on it. It's high time she made music for people in her age bracket, she might be surprised how it works out. Even if it doesn't work out for the charts, the aim is to be a hit with the critics and awards committees at least.

A moment in time that can't be repeated by the industry pop machine. A meteor, bright then gone. Here for a good time, not a long time, just like our teen dreams.

Sorry I read that as how would you review.

Revive? I'd say she still has a very successful career. I'm not into it but let's not pretend she's not a TV icon now and an entrepreneur.

I feel like traditional bubble gum pop or even traditional general pop in general is nearly dead. Again, this is no shade to Dua whom I love, but FN, while massive overseas, opened fairly weakly in the US and I'm not sure it ever even reached #1 on the album charts....it did end up doing very, very well in the US though via streaming (and a massive push by the label) but nothing like UK/Europe.  Some fans drag Gaga's numbers, but 250k+ for a dance pop album in the 2020s is excellent.

Her best bet imo would be to go back to her roots....acoustic or even pop rock.

opening weak is what dua has always done and having a number one album is irrelevant in the long run especially compared to how well it did later; the album debuted at #4 but later peaked at #3 a whole year later after she performed at the grammys and has sold a million copies in the US.

Monsters seem to forget that Joanne was actually a flop lol. It was literally her worst selling album and critics didn't exactly love it. MR was only a minor hit thanks to the superbowl.

It spent more weeks in the top 50 of the Billboard album charts than Adele’s latest album :poot:

Million Reasons is going to be 5x platinum soon and gets more daily streams than a lot of #1 hits from 2016 :poot:

Honestly, I don't think it can be. She released two singles with two big DJ's (Zedd and Alesso) and none of them did anything. When I'm Gone had Katy with her signature look and dance song and still did nothing :laughga:

She needs to go country folk rock and adult.

Kids are into other younger acts and plenty of new younger pop bangers makers came along... She can't compete fairly. :/

Her voice does better at ballads than pop bangers anyway imo.

She's rich beyond measure and has had a really successful career. I'd just let her keep doing what she wants to do. I think she doesn't care about charts anymore and is happy with how things are going.
