Liza "forced on stage" in wheelchair at Oscars (Liza Minelli)

They couldn't give her 3 minutes to get herself ready and seated on stage? She's Liza f.ucking Minelli! There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour towards anyone, let alone a legend like her. Absolutely awful. I'm sure she was already nervous to be seen again by the public in her deteriorated state, and she already said she did not want to be seen in a wheelchair, so she would have been feeling so horrible up there in front of the crowd and cameras. It's no wonder she was stumbling on her words, she was full of anxiety. Sabotaged is exactly the right word. I would not be surprised if they wanted her to look frail and elderly to generate buzz and get people talking... which unfortunately really worked :smh:

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Not sure bringing this up again in the media is what Liza would want either.

This. Really hope monsters leave this alone (mostly for Liza, but because I can see some people twisting this around to somehow make Gaga a villain due to the "forced on stage" part (which I could see as a headline) which is rather misleading).

Granted, it could all be rumors, but a couple of years ago I remember reading that allegedly Liza and her friends were VERY upset that the media was implying her mental facilities weren't all there due to her illness. It's sh*tty of the Oscars, but I also feel like this is sh*tty of her friend to bring it up because I mentioned before in this thread that he has to know (unless he's naive) how the media will twist this into less about the people running the Oscars and more into a "Liza has dementia" or "Liza's old illness causes x or y" type of story.

*Apparently her illness can cause some brain damage, but Liza functions fine (and she has appeared fine after her illness, too, but before the Oscars, which indicates the illness didn't have any impact on her).

A person I follow on film twitter-who has dragged Gaga before-was defending her today because the quote tweets from a story about this were apparently full of hate towards...Gaga. Like it's already passed and there's so much real world drama going on that no one will remember this relatively small story but...all this story has done is make a) people believe Liza has full on dementia or b) people who don't read past the headlines/or only see misleading tweets think Gaga forced her into a wheelchair.

So yeah, as some of us were commenting...her friend did Liza no favors by this story.

*It was an IndieWire tweet, which in general is just full of clickbait towards celebs these days to the point I'm surprised celebrities still interview with them..it's absolutely bizarre, too, as they are a "serious" film site. I wonder if they are having some sort of financial trouble, because there's been a major tonal shift over the past 2-3 years in terms of their social media which seem engineered to get clicks.

I mean, she was happy to be there...unhappy about being told to be in a wheelchair according to a "friend" and that's why threw her off. But yeah, it ultimately sounds like it was just a bad idea and now a lot of people (wrongly) have the impression she has dementia and was forced to be there and/or Gaga forced her to be there (which is insane, but some ppl love to hate on her)

Nothing to be ashamed of if you’re in a wheelchair..

The point isn't that she's in a wheelchair. It's the headlines and speculation after. Just media fodder and takes away from her as a person and her abilities.
