The thing is planes are fitted with very effective HEPA filters, which clean the air every couple of minutes, so there is far less chance of picking up germs than your average Wallmart or Target store.

We all quite happily got on planes, buses, subways etc without masks before covid....and just got on with our daily lives, without fretting about whether people sat near us had colds or not

However if people want to carry on wearing a mask then fine with me- I reserve my right to not

Good. Why can’t us vaccinated people move on? It’s our choice to stay protected. It’s a live and let live situation now. We have to get on with life.

It did for me. My mother and I had to attend a settlement conference. My mother said that she did not feel particularly well when she picked me up but could not miss the conference. COVID-19 was still running rampant and after the conference we spent 6+ hours together running errands. She wore a mask the entire time and sanitized her hands regularly. Which she always does. When she dropped me off, she said she was going to take an at-home COVID-19 test as soon as she got home. She tested positive but I tested negative after 6 days in self-quarantine. I may have contracted it if she had not worn a mask or sanitized. And for the record, we are both vaccinated and boosted and were at the time.

I think until we fully move on to endemic stage some caution is still in order especially in high risk settings. I don't wear a mask everywhere I go anymore but I still put one on in higher risk locations with a higher density of people

 

Also the vaccines effectiveness against these new variants is a little bit lower. I personally know someone currently in the hospital and she was fully vaxxed... Some older or immuno compromised people are just still vulnerable

Because COVID isn't comparable to a cold. It is killing people at much higher rates, long COVID is a thing and it is debilitating, and we are STILL in a pandemic. Wearing a mask while on public transport is the LEAST anyone can do. Pretending this is over is sociopathic.

Yes, we can all assess our own risk, but when on a PUBLIC service that people depend on to get to work, we should be more considerate.

COVID's here to stay. It won't ever disappear. It's a fact of life now, and this false hope of eradicating COVID is borderline unhealthy at this point. After 2 "zero covid" lockdowns in my country, we still were having many cases daily, even when everyone was at home after 2 months. I cannot, and will not, accommodate the scepticism around the vaccine. It's no longer my responsibility now that a lifeline is being offered. I'm safe, my family's safe, end of. If people die, even with the vaccine, then that is beyond human control. People die from the flu, even with the flu vaccine. It's unavoidable. That may sound cuel, insincere or individualistic in nature, but we can't stop the unstoppable. 

 

It's good your making an informed CHOICE. Just like I've made the choice to not wear a mask anymore. Nobody is stopping anyone wearing a mask, and nobody should be made to wear a mask.
