Aura/Venus/MJH/ARTPOP were good indicators of the album title, but a lot of the tracks are pretty tame for an album with that title. I wish things were a bit more experimental on the production side (breaking some of the traditional pop structures of top 40 radio). My family used to be travellers and we say we’re ex-gypsy and other travellers also refer to themselves as gypsies. I wouldn’t say gypsy is a slur in the UK unless someone is using it to insult. ARTPOP the album is overrated The cover art isn't that great but it's still iconic and matches the loudness of the album There should've been a stronger Greek mythology aesthetic ARTPOP started Vaporwave aesthetic MANICURE, Gypsy, and Fashion are the best songs on the album. Including when DJ White Shadow played it at the Chicago ARTPOP event (if I remember correctly, he asked the audience and played that version according to their input). Venus is underrated and one of her best songs production-wise. Venus alone is better and more mature than most of TF and TFM. Would have delivered an insane video if they followed the Steven Klein alien-born this way meets a Space Odyssey. that’s how I imagine it. it would have been her best video and a cultural reset. G.U.Y doesn’t deserve the hate. it could even have been the first single. Aura is the best chorus of the album and the best drop. (“Enigma popstar is fun, she wears Burqa for fashion”). it could also have been the first single with an amazing video on a white backdrop like the ARTPOP film. that concept would have worked beautifully for Aura. it would have looked the sh*t. it’s overall just as fun as BTW if not more, it’s not as pretentious. she was living her best life when she made ARTPOP and it shows. Dope is incredible and the production is uber chic. Gypsy is my least favorite but it grew on me and I don’t skip it as much. Fashion! and Manicure aged the best. both were ahead of its times. the video for Applause is ICONIC but could have been better.
